Out of context panel for the comic, I have the first four panels made and will be posting part 1 soon. Stay tuned ppl
Hey, I really enjoyed your writing in the Jeff/Liu rewrite and I'm in love with how you twisted the story!! I think it fits the two a lot more and not only fleshes out their characters, but gives them proper motive as creepypastas. I was just wondering if I could get your personal version/dumbed down summary of the story, particularly what's going on when Liu's taking care of Jeff and starts losing his mind. I have my own interpretations, but I also got a little confused around there and want to see what you have to say about it.
No pressure, just thought I'd ask. Sorry if my ask was confusing. Thanks :)
Yeah I can try!
Let me explain my perspective as a creative first; when approaching work I like interpretation! So anything left unclear unless being a flaw on my part or poor writing(things that I’m constantly working on and trying to improve) are intentionally left up to reader perspective.
The main story is that Jeff and Liu are from a Ukrainian and Romanian immigrant family. The family are pig farmers and live in rural America within the Appalachian region. I set the story in a fictional town called true morels.
The boys are bullied and ostracised by some of their peers for being immigrants and “weird”. Liu is definitely the most normal out of the family, because the father is an abusive alcoholic whose behaviour degrades the family dynamic. The mother is also abusive, but more so due to her upbringing and isolation. The family is thus very closed off to a detrimental effect(emotional incest, codependency ect)
I set the story in the boys later teens (Jeff 17, Liu 18) as Jeff finally rebels against his father, as Mr. Woods health has degraded from alcohol abuse to the point of vulnerability. Liu having had more time with his father than Jeff, is not emotionally able to fight back.
After the tension in the town leads to the arson attack at the pig pen Jeff spends six months in hospital. This also takes place over his and Liu’s birthday, Christmas and new years. The financial stress of the medical bills and consistent harassment from Randy’s family makes the family isolate further. Mr. Woods essentially gives up, not taking care of the farm(as their source of income was burnt down) and turns to drink.
Mrs. Woods was long gone before then anyway, but not having Jeff at home as her only connection makes her health worse. When Jeff is discharged Liu is left with the responsibility to look after him.
What happens next is up for interpretation;
Either - Liu is so mentally drained he experiences a nervous breakdown and is convinced his brother is dead, and possessed by a monster.
Or - there is influence from the Slenderman/the town that causes supernatural and psychological effects on both brothers.
Neither brother knows who cut the smile into Jeff, nor which one of them killed their parents. Jeff was on too many painkillers at the time to remember much, and Liu was too psychologically damaged to accurately recall. Liu is found legally guilty of the deaths however and sent to prison(this is to reference the whole Juvie debacle from the 2011(?) Jeff the Killer story)
Either way, Jeff is brought back from the dead, motivated by two things; kill those who ruined his family and reunite with his brother.
Anything else like; is Jeff born evil? Was Jeff possessed? Was Liu just mentally ill? What mental illness is present? Who killed the parents? Did Randy know he was in the pen? Ect I prefer to leave for reader interpretation.
I’d love to hear your interpretation!
I hope this clarifies the story for you and my goals narratively. If you’re curious about why I chose to leave certain things unanswered I can absolutely expand on that!
Thank you for the curiosity and I’m glad you enjoyed the story!
I guess I like to personally think Jeff killed his parents with his resolve gone under the pain meds, and his strange behaviour was just a mix of medication and relearning his body after the fire. He already had desires to kill his father, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. I also think on some level it was a combo of psychological and supernatural- but I prefer this not to be “canon” in my narrative as I think the mystery reflects the towns perspective. The people of the town will never truely know what happened in that house, what was wrong with Jeff or why Liu did what he did—just like we’ll never know.
Hey guys I’ve been having some issues at uni so next part of the comic probably won’t be out until break :(
It will 100% continue tho I’m already thumb nailing the next 10 pages
