From afar, 4759 Trumbull looks like any other of Victorian home in the historic Woodbridge neighborhood. But a closer look reveals much more. This isn’t just any house, no my friends - this is the Lorax House, that’s right, the Lorax House, inspired by Dr. Seuss’ classic 1971 children’s book about an environmentally-conscious creature that speaks for the beautiful Truffula trees and tries to shield them from corporate greed, namely the Once-Ler. Just a few years ago, this house was a dilapidated mess. That all changed in 2012, when Alex Pereira, a Bolivian immigrant, purchased it at a Wayne County tax auction. Pereira, who came to the United States when he was nine, says that he learned to speak English by reading Dr. Seuss. Pereira’s aim was not only to preserve a home, but also offer a glimpse of hope, particularly in Detroit’s war against blight. Years of vacancy and extreme deterioration had done a number on the interior, which had to be gutted and completely rebuilt. The young real estate developer hired a chainsaw artist as well as a muralist to help make The Lorax House a reality. The renovated home is energy efficient, offering 3 one-bedroom units, a studio and live-work space with an attached commercial art gallery. #Detroit #Westside #Westside #WoodbridgeDetroit #QueenAnne #VictorianArchitecture #TrumbullAvenue #TrumbullAve #archi_ologie #oldhouselove #casasecasarios #houses_ofthe_world #beautifulhouseoldandnew #TheAmericanHome #houseportrait #BrickStory #RawDetroit #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #MotorCityShooters #PureDetroit313 #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #Michiganders #ThisPlaceMatters #ThisPlaceMattersDetroit #MichiganPlacesMatter #DrSeuss #TheLorax #LoraxHouse (at Woodbridge, Detroit) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8dGb6bl9Yz/?igshid=1wsalnebt9pgc
