Trump Guns For Space Dominance! Orders Pentagon To Create Space Force As “Sixth Branch Of U.S Military”
If the extraterrestrial ambitions of President Trump announced yesterday got everyone wondering, it certainly must have had other signatories to OST scratching their heads in dismay. Officially the US is a member of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which forbids the stationing of weapons of mass destruction in space and only allows for the use of the Moon and other celestial bodies for peaceful purposes. But giving the unconventional style of the present number one citizen of the USA, things may take a U turn into unknown territories President Trump has just announced an order, directing the Pentagon to create the 'Space Force' as an independent service branch. He said Monday that "we are going to have the space force" which he considers a "separate but equal" branch of the military. Trump says the United States will "be the leader by far" in space and wants to revive the nation's flagging space program. The president framed space as a national security issue, saying he does not want "China, Russia and other countries leading us." He said the creation of a space force was part of the process of “reclaiming America’s heritage as the world’s greatest space-faring nation”, which he claimed was “great for the psyche of our country”. Trump also vowed to return the United States to the moon and to reach Mars soon. Though there had been some voice of dissent, Vice President Mike Pence, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, former astronaut Buzz Aldrin and members of Trumps space council joined him in support What was once believed to be the final frontier may soon become the front line of a future conflict. At least, that may be the view of the Defence Department. “Space is no longer a peaceful domain,” Deborah Lee James, the last Air Force secretary, said in an interview last July. “There is a real possibility that a conflict on Earth could bleed into space.” There are two main reasons for that: Russia and China. According to the Defence Intelligence Agency, Russia wants to gain more power in space because it believes gaining supremacy there will allow it to win future fights on this planet. And in late 2015, China created the Strategic Support Force, which is meant to streamline and improve its space, cyber, and electronic warfare missions. Where does this lead? What does it portend for humanity and life on the planet?
