Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared detailed plans about a military operation against the Houthis in Yemen on a second Signal group chat, this one on his personal phone and included his wife, lawyer and brother.
The revelation comes as some of Hegseth’s closest advisers have begun sounding the alarm about the secretary’s judgment, including his former press secretary, John Ullyot, and three former senior officials.
“It’s been a month of total chaos at the Pentagon. From leaks of sensitive operational plans to mass firings, the dysfunction is now a major distraction for the president,” Ullyot said.
This second Signal chat is in addition to the one last month when Hegseth communicated secret military plans to Cabinet officials and, mistakenly, to the press. That chat is under investigation by the Defense Department’s acting inspector general.
A series of leaks about military planning for the Panama Canal and the Middle East, about a possible consolidation of the combatant commands, and a classified China briefing for Elon Musk at the Pentagon, has called into question whether this former Fox News host has the ability to be in charge of one of the largest, and crucially important, organizations in the world.
These repeated, serious blunders and acts of negligence have brought into deep focus the degree to which Hegseth's incompetence and lack of experience could jeopardize America's national security — even some Republicans are calling for his removal.
Btw, to launch nuclear weapons, Trump only needs the approval of one other person — the Secretary of Defense.
