"Oh, hi," Jocelyn said, rather surprised to be running into the girl again.
There were no such thing as coincidences, as far as she knew.
She couldn't help the soft smile that she gave him. "You've always been weird. But I still love you."
He grinned, even if she couldn't see it. "Thanks for the comfort on that one babe. I love you too."
"I hope you're right." She was a bit more relaxed as she curled up in his lap as he pulled her onto the couch. She looked up toward him and lay a hand on his cheek. "You okay?"
"I'm fine," he reassured her. It was strange. His memories weren't changing, not exactly. And it wasn't like they were being replaced. But it was like he was watching each situation play out differently- one with Cassie's father, and one without. Both timelines, strung up side by side. "I think I'm weird."
"I remember us going back and seeing them then, but... " she trailed off, shaking her head. "There's nothing."
He bit his bottom lip, thankful Cassie couldn't see the worry on his features. He still remembered- would his memories vanish too? Alec pulled Cassie down onto the sofa. "It'll be fine, I'm sure babe. Just some wibbly wobbly stuff, right?"
"He... I never knew him. Mom raised me by herself. Dad's... buried in Kripke's Hollow." She goes very quiet, shaking slightly in his arms.
"So... So you remember not remembering him? What about- I mean, what about the other time- where you knew him- what's happening to those memories?"
She shook her head. "I remember... the stories Mom and everyone else told me, but he wasn't... oh God. He died when I was a baby." There's something of panic in her voice, but also a surety.
Alec held onto her, keeping his arms wrapped around her in a strong grip. “Take it easy," he murmured, “What do you mean he died when you were a baby?"
She was quiet for a moment before she turned toward him. "I can't remember my dad. It... all I remember is mom. It was just us."
He frowned slightly. "What do you mean, you don't remember Chuck?"
"I don't know." She squeezed his hand tightly, head facing in the direction his voice was coming from. "Certain memories are getting... fuzzy, and... " She huffed, upset. "I don't know what's happened." She was frustrated. She hated putting stress on him, but she didn't know who else to turn to. She leaned against him, her head on his shoulder.
He pulled her into a tight hug, resting his chin on top of her head. "Did something about the past change?" Things like this had been happening a lot lately, and it was starting to worry Alec. Sure, his own memories were... a little different. He wasn't exactly sure about them anymore, to be frank, but he was still here and that was what counted.
