Truthfully Speaking

I didn’t think my eyes could spill more tears, but they kept coming. No one ever wanted to imagine that they’d be forced to explain to their parents the intimacy of their relationship.

His parents had already forced the truth out of him, and gave us a week to come clean to my parents before they owned up to it for us.

The sheer humiliation of that conversation, mixed with their anger and my own betrayal at their lack of understanding was immense. A dark and swirling poison that rooted into him and I both long before I realised.

Our truth was a lie. Their anger was heated enough when they thought the 19 year old and I now 16 had in fact waited until 16. They would never know.
