The USCSS Prometheus was set to leave within the month, and the station was accordingly buzzing with activity. There was cargo to be accounted for and loaded, systems to test and debug, and in general a seemingly endless list of odds-and-ends to tend to. Caleb watched it all through a distant expression, his only thought being that he was glad not to be a common laborer. His own job was not so tedious, and required much more than a high school education.
And yet, there was a downside to his situation--a sentient one who was currently leading him through the throng of workers. His name was David, and Caleb found him absolutely insufferable from the moment he first opened his mouth. Presently, he was explaining the different workers’ uniforms and what sectors each commanded. The boy shuffled along, hands in pockets and eyes rolling as he tuned out the pretentious drawl of the other android. It seemed like hours before they came to a halt.
“Mmm.” He hummed absently, as David concluded his latest speech with a
thin smile. “So, is there anything you have to tell me that’s actually useful?
I know all that I need to about the company and its objective here. I really
don’t need an obsolete model lecturing me on protocol and whatnot.”
In rare instances, Caleb could feign something akin to manners. That, however, was usually reserved for people who were (unfortunately) above him in rank, and even then it was no guarantee. David was by no means an authority over him (something that even Mr. Weyland had made clear), and in truth he was rather irked at being led by this bleach-blond buffoon. So yes, he was quick to snap---and no he didn’t plan on curbing his blunt manner any time soon.
