The last time people were going through it, they had good music. #WhatisRecessionPop and can we ever have anything like it again
Welcome to the nostalgia bus, today's topic is Recession pop and how it truly thrived during trying times, this genre is considered one of the best forms of escapism during the financial crisis. Could it make a comeback after the 2020's plunged the world into a prolonged yet inescapable funk ? One can only hope. Recession pop is often characterized as fast-paced dance music, with catchy lyrics like "tonight"
While the music industry has experienced a major shift because of TikTok and how people consume music, it has been pretty clear that the masses need music that isn't a direct reflection of our woeful reality. Another thing that has been obvious is that music labels have been scrambling to find young artists that posses the star quality as the artists popular the 00's (In my opinion due to the lack of investing in young artists and building a star) so can Gen-Z pivot into dance or EDM music and how will we set the stage to bring forced positive vibes.
