Personal Guide on How I Download and Compress Sims 2 CC, On Steam Deck
(If anyone sees this, this is just my own personal tutorial on how I do things and find everything ^^; There's most likely a simpler process, but this is just how I understand how to do things!! I feel like I need to make a post just so I can do this again should I have to restart :,] But if you find this helpful then great, I'm glad I could help!!)
In the Dolphin File Viewer, Navigate to your Sims 2 game folder, in my case it's "The Sims 2 Legacy"
The full path directory for me is " /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/3314070/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 Legacy/ "
1) You'll need to either create a new folder titled "Downloads" or move onto the third step. It needs to be spelled correctly with a capital "D", this is where you will end up putting all your mods and cc.
2) Next I recommend watching Pleasant Sims YouTube video on Organizing and Compressing Sims 2 Custom Content. The process is mostly the same, but I finding the actual folders on SteamOS is much more difficult than on Windows.
3) This part is optional (unless you skipped the first step,) but I recommend downloading her empty Downloads folder, this just helps keep your Downloads folder organized which will save you a lot of time, energy, and headache when you want to remove a piece of CC. Unzip "Pleasant_Sims_Download_Folder.7z" and copy the "Downloads" folder to the Sims 2 Folder we located earlier.
4) Download your desired CC and/or mods. Most of the CC you'll download will need to be unzipped, so be sure to extract them to your Downloads folder (if you downloaded Pleasant Sims Downloads then make sure you're placing the CC into the correct cub category folder.)
5) Another optional but recommended step is to download the Compressorizer, as mentioned in the video (I actually downloaded the "Faster Compressorizer" from lingeringwillx on Mod the Sims, since it's newer, though either should work really.) You'll need to unzip this file as well. An important additional step for getting this program to work on SteamOS is needed: In it's extracted folder right click the "The Compressorizer.exe" file and click "Add to Steam"
6) Once added to Steam, open the Steam app, go to your library, find The Compressorizer in the games list and right click (or left click, and then click on the gear icon), go to "Properties". In the Properties window click on "Compatibility", then click on the box that says "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool". It should then give you another box that shows options for various compatibility tools, click on "Proton Experimental". Once that's done you can close completely out of the Steam app, (you may need to right click the Steam app logo on the bottom left side of the menu bar and hit "Exit Steam".)
7) Now you should be able to use the compressorizer program with no issues. At this point you'll want to bring a copy of your Downloads folder into your normal downloads folder located within "Places" in Dolphin, this is so you can find folders location within the compressorizer app (quick explanation: you may not even need to make a copy to bring to your normal downloads area, but it does seem like the compressorizer app is unable to go into the hidden folders where the sims 2 app is located. at least it seems that way to me someone who is only slightly tech knowledgeable lol, if you can find an easier method then please feel free to bestow your wisdom upon me lol)
8) Open the Compressorizer app, click "Add Files to List". This will open a new widow, locate your temporary copied Downloads folder,
The full path directory should be " Desktop > My Computer > (Z:) > Home > Deck > Downloads > (Copied Sims 2 Downloads Folder) "
9) Once you've found and opened your (copied) CC and Mods folder. Click "GO!". This process will likely take a decent amount of time. Once finished, you may exit and finally replace your original Downloads folder within the Sims 2. At this point you should be able to open your Sims 2 game and enjoy the game with all the CC and Mods your heart desires!!
