Sims 3 CAW Challenge Mystery Island

Feeling uninspired and in need of a friendly push to get started with a new world? Never tried CAW before and could use a little community help? Or just plain bored being quarantined?

Suffer no longer, for I have just come up with a new challenge for ya!

The Challenge:

Build a world based on this height map during May 2020. There’s small and medium height maps available in here.  (Just flat islands, nothing too fancy). It’s a short time, so throw away perfectionism and just play!

Choose your style, alter the heights and ad or demolish smaller islands, just keep the overall look about the same.

You can post your progress on Tumblr using the tags #CAW challenge and #mystery island.

Most importantly, don’t stress over it, have fun, and bend the rules if you need to. Also feel free to use the height map for other purposes than the challenge. It’d be awesome if there would be some ready worlds at the end of May! (Or June, or July...)

For CAW beginners: download the height map (I’d recommend the smaller) and put it in your Electronic Arts -> The Sims 3 Create a World Tool -> UserToolData -> HeightMaps folder so that it’s easier to find when you open a new world. The map is ugly, so don’t worry! I will continue my island by smoothing the edges and adding height to the centers. I’m a n00b myself but don’t hesitate to contact if you need any help.

So there’s the, umm, highly detailed and ultra realistic height map, done in Paint. Although I have to say it is based on a real island. I won’t say more so that I wouldn’t influence your vision too much.

Part of the testing was done in the amazing Woeford made by the talented @simsmidgen​ and @nornities​. 

I used the Palatial Grease Trap as a ruin resort and it worked surprisingly well! If you like this style, I highly recommend you to explore  Woeford!

SIMPLE GARDEN STATION

Update:2020/4/22 Thanks to thecynicalmermaid for reminding me the override issue. I completely forgot that I’ve used the work of David Montenegro as the base (to make sure the store content works, the mesh was modified from EA original though.) I have fixed the problem, testing both versions in game and updated the links. The new file won't override David's anymore. Please download the new zip or just replace with the fixed one HERE.

Monthly Challenge Theme for 01/2020

is….”Working on Farms!”🎉🎉🎉

The possibilities are endless:

build a farm lot; residential or community, with whatever animals or crops (barns, coops, nurseries, greenhouses, hothouses, etc.)

new build or buy mode CC -- conversions, new meshes, frankenmeshes!

new patterns, terrains, or wallpapers

new CAS CC suitable for farm life

make some farmer Sims or cool households

make Pets expansion animals -- pig-dogs; sheep-dogs; goat-horses; wild cats!

decor animals

decor plants and crops

new harvestables or food recipe script mods

tuning XML mods for more or fewer harvestables/collectables/food servings

retextures and mesh edits to the Store sets (swapping the milkable cow with a goat; new beehives, whatever!)

Modern things, medieval things, rustic things...whatever your imaginations come up with, as long as you have fun.

Monthly Challenge Theme for November 

is....”architecture & architectural style”🎉🎉🎉

Though the example used in the questionnaire is Art Nouveau, please feel free to try other architectural styles!

As for the big question of whether to change the frequency or not, more people would like to keep status quo. However, we’ve also received some valuable suggestions, like bimonthly instead of monthly/quarterly, or release the theme earlier.   

Combining all the above suggestions, we can vote and decide the theme a month earlier and use November / December as a buffering, since most creators would work on winter/Christmas CC in before the end of December. The next vote (for January) could be held by the end of November so creators would have more time to work on, meanwhile, any architectural CC is welcomed before the next theme comes up. 

The tutorial suggestion should be very useful for creators, anyone can submit any tutorial at anytime and we will add them on our tutorial archive ASAP. If creators find the need for certain tutorials, they can ask for other creators’ help on our discord. Anyone can join this event or submit their tutorials without tumbr accounts, as long as the effective links are provided!      

Last but not least, it’s not the first time that we received suggestions for the theme AFTER the vote. To keep the challenge as fair and open as it should be, all of the options in our votes comes from simmers’ submission and we don’t choose themes for the participants. So please don’t make assumptions and just submit your ideas! We don’t bite!
