Tsagaannuur, Mongolia

Up in the northwest corner of Mongolia, in a predominantly Kazakh region of the country, there's a village that's half Mongolian and half Kazakh, in the middle of some of the most amazing scenery I have ever seen - with mountains, scree, lakes, and swamp, as well as some picturesque, although recent, ruins. It's on one of the three border crossings between Mongolia and Russia that are open to foreigners, but it's by far the most remote, so the main use it gets is international freight and cyclists or other rugged travelers who have been on the road a little long.
