A spontaneously sketched and colored tribute to Viktor R. Tsoi- fashioned in the style of Samurai Champloo’s design.

For those unfamiliar with Tsoi, Tsoi was a rock composer and songwriter, frontman and founder of the Soviet Rock band, Kino (Cinema in Russian). 

His poetic lyrics often charged with political and social commentary criticizing the failing government, combined with his melancholic, richly layered melodies have secured him as a beloved icon in Russian culture.

Initially, this began as a trial sketch for some differing hairstyles and facial features styles for Dyusha but it rapidly evolved into a rocker portrait of Tsoi.

It somehow morphed into the vein of Samurai Champloo’s  jaunty, sharp-feature style and a blend of neon-hued street art style, almost somewhat Tsoi’s own experimental art.

I'm listening to an album that was released after the lead singer's death.

He recorded the vocals and then went on a fishing trip. On the way back, promptly had a head on with a truck and died. The rest of the band recorded the instrumental parts afterwards and released it as a tribute to him.
