Greek Police in Thessaloniki are investigating the suspected murder of a local soccer player who was found dead in his car at the marina of Nea Krini in the suburb of Kalamaria on Tuesday morning.
Nikos Tsoumanis, 30, was found with three tire ups around his neck, ethnos newspaper reported.
A preliminary autopsy showed that his death was caused by asphyxiation, a thorough examination is still due.
Initially it was thought that the soccer player had committed suicide.
According to media, Tsoumanis had been reported missing to police by his girl friend and family on Monday afternoon.
His car was located by a police patrol early on Tuesday.
The left back was playing for Makedonikos this season and had previously been at Aris and Apollonas, among other teams.
