In basic genetics, that is true. an AB parent shouldn’t be able to have an O child. However, with everything in life, there’s always an exception. Parents can carry the cis-AB version which causes a singular gene inheritance (get the gene from either the father or the mother, not a mix). This is a rare mutation of the ABO gene and is most commonly found in Asian families - Japanese being the second most common. Hope that explains things without being too complicated.
