She’s Our Wife
Story: So this is a collection of a whole /heap/ of AU’s with @blametheeditor, and the alternate Seto’s from each one, inspired by their ideas of alternate characters formed at key points in a person’s life. So in this we have:
- Seto: an average Seto
- Society: Seto who stayed with the Society. Human sized.
- Seto who continued to use Jewel for blood (backstory stuff) Human sized.
- Serpent: a Mer AU in which Seto is a merman who adopted Gabriel as his child after his parents were orphaned, meeting Jewel afterward when she stumbles into his cave. Giant.
- Pacific: an AU where Seto is a giant among humans who pilot Jaegers. In the story he protects various Tinies in his hair who are the furthest from regular Seto, including Borrower Seto, Seto without Anhemites, and Seto who was never given up. Giant.
- Feral: an AU where Seto lives in the woods as a Feral giant and adopts Jewel when she’s found injured. Giant.
- Detective: a New York detective in a black and white noir world, who wears a wide hat to accomodate tinies and a long trenchcoat. Human sized.
- Night Guard: a Night At The Museum Seto! Human sized.
- No Jewel and No Gabriel are self-explanatory
Enjoy the mayhem!
Jewel freezes as all of a sudden there seems to be 12 pairs of eyes locked onto her, and the instinct is to pull back and shelter Gabriel in her hands. That is, until her eyes meet the familiar browns that she'd know /anywhere/.
Around a /dozen/ familiar eyes, actually. Large and small, brown and black, peering out from behind fringes matted with leaves and plastered down with seawater. Each one of them looks different, and yet they are all so familiar.
"...dad?" Gabriel's eyes widen as a whimper slips from his mouth, eyes immediately fixing on the figure closest to him, whose eyes are shiny and black as he stares over them with a glare that he'd never seen from his father before. Or...whatever it was.
"Look who it is."
Seto feels his stomach twist as his wife and son walk into this mess, his aloof nature cracking as he notices the two darker sides fixing her and the child with consuming glares, the shadowy quiet figure that mirrored Society suddenly looking a lot more menacing.
In a flash, he's got a blade of ice at Jewel's throat, and Society watches on with a smile of pride. The Anhemite shuts her eyes and conceals Gabriel inside her fist, lips quivering as terrified shivers conquer her entire form. Throat bobbing as it touches a honed shard of ice.
"Don't you /dare/ touch my guppy."
A fin slaps angrily against the grass as Serpent riles up, baring a set of wicked fangs as Feral lashes out to scratch the air as a warning that no-one will /touch/ his creature.
Detective Seto recognises his sugar cube, and an innocent lil' whippersnapper in her hand.
"Neither a' you bastards are gettin' outta here on my watch." He says, tipping his hat and raising his fists.
The multiple Light copies of Seto recognise her, No Jewel looking guilty while No Gabriel growls along, and Borrower yells out from the shoulder of Pacific Rim, who shelters the smallest ones in his long hair that remain scared and unknowing. The only one who doesn't react is Night Guard, but he holds his flashlight out with purpose.
"Aww, look-k-k-k-k at all of t-t-t-them. Getting all riled up over fresh /b-b-b-b-blood/."
"Now now, Seto, let's see what we can get out of them. The Society taught me never to waste a hostage."
Gabriel managed to wriggle free of the constricting fist trying to hold him silent, heart beating pitifully against his mother's fingers as his long hair falls into his eyes. He just wants to be with his dad, his real dad! Scanning the crowd of strangers, he finds the one who looks the most normal...the right size, the right build, the right clothes.
And as soon as their eyes meet, he cries out.
"DAD! DA,A,A,D!!"
"Gabriel, n-"
"Help me! I duh-duh-don't wanna d,i,i,i,i,ie.."
The boy sniffs, and before Society can fix that wicked gaze on the innocent teenager, Jewel presses her thumb to his soft hair in farewell before he's thrown like a ball. Tossed to the Setos, where she knows he'll be safe.
Gabriel screams as he flings through the sky, feeling weightless as he arcs in a moment of zero gravity, before it takes hold once more and he's dropping to his uncertain doom. Seto jumps for Gabriel, but he's not close enough to reach, and is shoved out of the way by another.
"I got'im."
The human tumbles to a halt with a groan, tears still spilling down his cheeks as the bowl that holds him shifts and tosses him around like a penny, leaving him slumped and in pain. Terrified as a shadow falls over him and he's surrounded by rumbling voices, only one of them truly his dad.
"Move cap back to safety."
"Good catch, Detective."
"Behind me."
Then everything stops, and the coarse fabric of a hat is replaced by something warm, with another familiar feeling gently prodding at him.
“Little fella, wake up. We ain't gonna hurt'cha."
His screwed eyes slowly open up at the inviting, if a little unfamiliar, accent, finding himself in the palm of a hand. The owner looms overhead, sharp brown eyes scanning him over with practised ease. Beside him, there's a titan of a man, crouched and watching the proceedings, and Detective notices the fearful looks and heaving chest as Gabriel scrambles to escape.
"Hey, easy there. Don't go spazzin' on me now, /calm down/ bud."
"No..No where's my dad! I want my da,a,a,d." The human cries, backing away into curled fingers that stop him from falling into the grass far away. This one may look like his dad, but it isn't, he doesn't even know him.
The detective lets out a grunt as he looks around from where he sits crouched beside Pacific's shoe and next to Serpent's tail, tapping the giant to gain his attention.
"Ey, get someone over here who knows this kid, will ya? Breakin' my goddamn heart here."
