Seven years old and at the Academy, that was the first time Uchiha Sasuke ever uttered those words to Haruno Sakura, the young Uchiha scoffing at the Haruno. His annoyed glare and scowling lips were opposed to her bright and everlasting smile, hopeful green eyes as she held out the bento she had made him, after staying up all night and making her mother teach her how to make the best friend rice that Sakura had ever tasted.

She had come up to him and offered it to him, the Uchiha taking a full five seconds to realize that she was offering him food, the only girl to ever do so. He figured she was the only one that took the time away from staring at his face to realize that the food he brought was always cold and easily prepared by a child, nothing fancy.

Begrudgingly, he had accepted the bento, offering no 'thank you' for the girl's efforts but she smiled brightly and giggled as she ran back to her friends.

"You're an idiot."

"I know."

The second time Sasuke said that, they were genin. Sakura was patiently bandaging a wound Sasuke had sustained during a fight earlier, completely ignoring the own bleeding gash on her thigh. He continued to chastise her, irritably trying to jerk his arm away but she would just apply a bit more pressure, the pain making him stay.

He told her that he was fine, go tend to your own wounds, but she would glare at him lightly, saying that her wound didn't have poison and Sasuke's did so, sit still and shut up, Sasuke-kun, let me bandage this.

Her glare wasn't that terrifying when they were in the Academy, Sasuke thought while being sent into a prideful sulk.

"You're an idiot."

"I know."

Those words were becoming a routine exchange between the two, although this time said with a much more serious undertone. Sakura's eyes were hardened as she looked at Sasuke, keeping her gaze even and trying to calm her racing heartbeat, not wanting to show her emotions because she was a shinobi and shinobi rule #25 was...

...a shinobi must keep his emotions inside at all times no matter the situation...

She kept her calm like a true shinobi, although her hands were shaking as she glared. Sasuke looked back, a nonchalant and lazy look, a smirk pulling on his lips as he uttered those words softly.

Sakura snapped her response, sorely missing the days when she had giggled them instead.

"You're an idiot."

"I know."

The fourth time Sasuke said that was while they were watching Naruto being granted the title of Hokage, the two members of Team Seven near the front of the crowd. He was still under probation--although he was thankful it was only probation--but the ANBU guards stood to the side, allowing him to finally breathe and have a bit of space.

He had felt Sakura's hand reach towards his, her soft fingers brushing against his gently, asking for permission. Knowing what she meant, he reached out and, without a single change in his expression, laced their fingers together, pretending it was nothing. He could feel her shake from silent and suppressed laughter and muttered the words, leaving "...for still giving me a chance" hanging in the air.

She answered with the same two words she always had, reciprocating his unsaid words with her own:

"...And I will love you forever."
