Does Gordon ever let James pull the express? Also does James have a gender-bent name or is she just James?

To answer the question back to front:

James's gender-bent name is Jemma.

Jemma hasn't pulled the Express for a long time, simply because it is too heavy for her to effectively pull now, as the Express has grown steadily along with the railway. Additionally, there are several stronger engines on Sodor (Henry, BoCo, Bear, and now Rebecca) who can pull it efficiently. Rebecca, in particular, has started pulling the Express more frequently so Gordon can spend more time with his little family now she's older.

Hope likes to sit in Gordon's lap to 'read' the morning paper after breakfast.

Leon likes to practice for the day he can eat solid food on anything he can clamp his gums on.

Not being quite as nerdy adventurous as the older couple, Gordon and James still chose a theme to match their egos, dressing up as Marc Antony and Cleopatra.
