Can one engine raise or care for another engine’s pups or chicks if they are unable to?

Yep, take Edward caring for Thomas, Bill, Ben and Phillip as an example. Sure, they may have never been pups and none of them are biologically his, but Edward still views them as his own :)

What changes did Toby suffer with the curse? because he is a steam tram, not a locomotive

also, how much food can he and philip consume? I remember you said that how big their hunger depended on their size and the two of them are not exactly very big

That is a good question. Toby was a difficult choice, but I ultimately decided to allow him undergo the same changes as the locomotives, as he is steam powered. However, he lacks the bloodthirsty instincts steamies usually have, making him seem more like an giant old house cat more than anything.

Both Toby and Phillip do not require nowhere near as much food as the larger engines. Toby has no desire to hunt as he is fed regularly, and is perfectly content with napping in the sun.

Phillip is still young, so he will need a little bit more than an adult, but once he's an adult, his appetite will go down a bit. Phillip is also the only diesel that is actually knowledgeable about the steamies, as he had become friends with Edward, learning more and more about them each day.

So to answer the second question, both of them do not require near as much as the bigger engines do, as they are quite small compared to the others.
