my parents just had a heated discussion in the kitchen and i’m trying really hard not to laugh.

my brother’s friend tucktuck came to stay with us this month while the two of them looked for an apartment. tucktuck was staying in my older bros room turned guest room. from the beginning my mom told tucktuck that by the end of the month my older bro was coming for a visit and would need his room for a few days. tucktuck could absolutely stay, but he’d have to share the room with my younger bro. not wanting to be an inconvenience, my bro and tucktuck found the first apartment they liked and could move into within days. they signed a lease on sunday. the moving process is gonna take a while since neither of them really have their own furniture. bits and pieces are arriving at our house this week and then when the two of them have some time off on sunday they’re going to move things around. my older bro got in today, so that was tucktuck’s cue to get out of the room.

so. tucktuck, not wanting to upset my mom, discreetly packed all his shit and loaded it into his car. after work he dropped it off at their apartment and came back to the house for an air mattress to sleep on (he decided not to be an inconvenience and to just stay in the apartment tonight--his bed gets in tomorrow).

my parents had NO IDEA this was happening. my father works from home--his make-shift office is literally in the direct path of my older bros room to the door. he saw tucktuck pack his stuff up and bring it to the car. but my dad had no idea it was ALL of tucktuck’s stuff. and neither my dad nor my mom had any idea tucktuck would opt for the air mattress in an empty apartment.

so, they were having a heated discussion in the kitchen. and all i can say, really, is that if my parents didn’t have a million other things going on in their lives, they would’ve seen this coming/happening. i also think it’s so damn funny that my mom is so bent out of shape about it.

AND now that the older bro is in town and i’m home, all of the old dynamics from when we were young are back. the older bro taking all the attention, my younger bro retreating inwardly. he might have said four words at the table tonight. it’s no wonder he didn’t tell my parents that tucktuck was staying in the new apartment tonight--he doesn’t supply info when the older bro is home. you have to ask for it at the right time and in the right way.

this weekend is going to be...fun
