Hello everyone! 

Unfortunately, we come with some less than happy news. It has been decided between the admins that, for the time being, TudorHQs will be going on an indefinite hiatus. Personal issues and lack of time to devote to running Tudors have become increasingly challenging for us, and we feel that to run the group at a limited capacity is unfair to the members - new, old, and prospective. We want to be able to truly respect and value the time and energy everyone has put into the characters, and we feel we can’t adequately do so when we both have other circumstances getting in the way. 

Our hope is that we will eventually be able to return to this group with a new vigor and give it the attention and love that it and everyone involved truly deserve! But until that time, we will unfortunately have to put the main on what will at the very least be an extended hiatus.

However, we will allow and encourage current members to continue writing amongst each other if they so wish, and to continue interacting OOC as they would like - Tudors always has been a great community, with some who have been part of it for the whole time the group has been open, and we are beyond grateful that this closeness endures even now.

In closing, we just want to say thank you, to everyone who has been a part of the journey in making this roleplay what it is - all of you who have applied or shown interest, or helped us shape the plot, or had any involvement at all. We love and appreciate the roles everyone has played, and thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for the continued love, support, and patience you have shown to the admins as we have navigated some personal challenges.

If there are any questions, feel free to IM the main or send an ask off anon - we will not post anything on the main, but will still have eyes on it from time to time! We will definitely update here as soon as we can, especially when we know for sure when and if Tudors will return - but until then, thank you again!

Hello all! Thank you once again for your continued patience with the admin team as we have worked to get everything in order for our very exciting plot jump - we are glad to hear that you are excited as we are about this update in our story!

Henry IX has been King of England for just over two years, and his reign has thus far been one of moderate conflict. Religious tensions have continued to divide the young King’s land, but the blows have been minimal, and Henry and his council have managed to appease both sides to maintain a tenuous peace. Life, it seems, moves on, and the people of England find their pace under the ninth Henry’s reign.

However, in the spring, an announcement is made which catches all of England by surprise, and to some, incites rage:

His Majesty, King Henry the Ninth, by the Grace of God, King of England and France, Defender of the Faith, Lord of Ireland, announces his betrothal to Her Highness Christina, the Princess of Denmark, before the eyes of God and of all the people of England.

Hello all! We apologise that things have been a bit quiet on our end but we’re hopeful that the plot drop we have in the works will make up for that. We wanted to send out a word of warning to prospective applicants or current members seeking to apply for another character that we are currently planning a time jump, so we would caution you all to wait a few days before doing so, so that you are not caught unawares by the changes that will be implemented in the coming week. As always, we welcome you to approach us with any questions you might have, although we respectfully ask that you postpone any event related questions until after our detailed explanatory post has been published. Hello, all! 

As you’ve surely seen, Admin Clau has stepped down from her muses for the time being to focus more on some real life issues, which I wish her the best with! However, she will still be working alongside me on the main, especially with the more behind-the-scenes portion of the work.

Just for some quick housekeeping - info about opening the applications for King Henry and the Queen-to-be Christina will be coming this weekend, so do keep your eyes peeled.

There will also be an activity check this coming Sunday - we’ve been pretty generous with activity checks because we ourselves have been busy, but now that things are adjusting, we will be taking these into account again. If you have any questions or concerns when it comes to your own activity, please contact either the main or message me on Discord, and I will do anything I can to help out!

We also want to remind everyone we have a co-admin application and although we haven’t been advertising it very much lately, it’s open and available!

Hello everyone - thank you so much for your enthusiasm about our plot update. We’re loving seeing all of the tasks and everyone’s reactions, and can’t wait to see more!

To get things really jump started with this event, as we usually do, we will allow open posting of starters from now (roughly 10:30 PM EST on the 10th) until the end of the day (11:59 PM EST) tomorrow, the 11th. We definitely encourage you to get posting and chatting as part of this new plot.

Hello, everyone! A few tiny housekeeping notes:

We will be doing our next activity check on Sunday (January 6) as we get out of the holidays and back to our usual schedule. So try to be active in the upcoming days, or contact us if you need a hiatus and haven’t already arranged one with us!

Speaking of activity, it’s been pointed out that with the lapse in activity because of the holiday celebrations, the starters in the tag are a bit outdated. To that end, we will allow open starter posting without previous replies from now (roughly 4:00 PM EST) to the same time tomorrow (January 4), so for the next 24 hours feel free to post an open! That said, please do keep an eye out for other starters that could use more notes and reply to them, as we want everyone to feel included!

Finally, a plot drop related to our Reclusive King event is in the works - we appreciate your patience with the lack of movement on that, since the holidays and Admin Clau’s continuing recovery have slowed things down a bit. We haven’t forgotten, though, and there will be updates, so do keep your eyes peeled! Also don’t forget there are tasks with that event post, and we encourage you to complete those if you feel so inclined!

Hello everyone! Just a quick note - Admin Clau and I are both quite busy at the moment with our respective real life activities, so apologies for the quietness on the main and around the group. Also, since many of our members are on hiatuses at the moment and the holidays and New Year are nipping at our heels, it’s decided that there will not be any activity check this week. We understand many of you will be traveling or simply busy, even if not celebrating, so no need to worry! We may do one next Sunday, but it will have to be considered and we’ll let you know.

Things are slowed down with the holidays, but we are definitely still around and will keep our eyes on the main to answer questions and accept new apps!

After the events of Valentine’s Day, life in the court of Henry IX has settled into business as usual. Court is bustling, and time is marching on. 

It is now the month of March, and to the relief of all in the court, spring is finally on the horizon. The season of Lent has begun, and with the religious observances, the tensions between varying factions at court are beginning to make themselves known. Reformers and staunch supporters of the Catholic faith alike are fighting to get into the King’s good graces, and it is only a matter of time before these tensions come to a tipping point....

A few notes on how the Tudor court would have observed Lent:

The days leading up to Lent would have featured feasting and celebrations once again - lots of rich foods, tournaments, plays, and more. This period is called Shrovetide, and occurs on the Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday prior to Lent.

Lent is a 40 day period (not including Sundays), which lasts from Ash Wednesday, which is on March 1 in 1536, to Easter Sunday, which is on April 16.

During Lent, courtiers are required to have restricted diets, as an observance of fasting. Rich foods are restricted and fish is served at meals in place of meat.

Other self-denials are also encouraged. Sexual relations between couples, even those who are married, are forbidden.

In churches, the nave (where the visiting churchgoers would be seated) and the chancel (the front of the church, where the altar can be found) would be separated by a veil, and other adornments would be covered in cloth, to symbolize hiding of the way to salvation. These coverings will remain in place until the Wednesday before Easter.

Both religious and other authorities will be watching to make sure these rules are followed - so if you dare to break them, make sure you don’t get caught!
