I’ve always known about the Tulsa riots and black Wall Street most of my life. These stories were always shared as part of oral history. I was hard pressed to find validation in mainstream media. 100 years later these stories are finally being told to the masses. It’s about time. #America’s sh** has stunk for generations…hopefully now that we are exploring our #history in a more comprehensive manner we can begin to heal. Progress isn’t always pretty. Hazel Jones, 97, a survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race riots shares her story and perspective on race. "I was a baby when the riot came. I was living on 1205 N Madison when the riot came. I was 3 years old. it’s like I tell everybody. My older brothers and sisters we talked about it. We tried to survive. We didn't get burned out or anything. During the riot they came and got us and took us to the fairgrounds where they were gathering people who didn't have a place to stay. We couldn't really talk about it because we didn't know who was behind the white robes of the Klu klux klan. It was the KKK because they use to burn a cross on the hill. When we see the cross burn we thought they had some people that they gonna do some bad things to them. My dad didn't want to let people know where we were.They didn't treat us fairly with the riots.
