Feeling immune to the enemy's tactics
“We all have something tugging at us. We all do. Being honest about that is the first step away from the enemy and back to God. The minute we feel immune to the enemy’s tactics is the minute pride, self-reliance, and self-deception rev up and God’s Word gets tuned out.”- Lysa TerKeurst
Lysa TerKeurst concludes Chapter 9 of It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way as she winds up her discussion of deception. Then she moves on to the third thing Satan wants to do to you – accuse.
2. Deception (cont.). Satan hand-designs his deception to draw your attention, affection, and worship away from God. Because God’s the only true fulfillment of your heart’s longings. Hence, Ms. TerKeurst astutely observes, “The enemy wants you to be more enamored with the pleasures of created things than the pleasure of the Creator Himself.”
Therefore, Lysa stresses the need to hold up everything your emotions tell you the Truth of God’s Word. Failure to do this leave you susceptible to Satan’s deceptions. He’ll twist your thoughts and feeling in order to lure you away from God.
3. Accusation. When we sin, we provide Satan with a personal script. In turn, Satan uses that script to make us feel not only unqualified, but also unable to receive forgiveness. Consequently, fear strikes Satan’s heart when we believe God loves us, wants the best for us, and forgives our sin. Lysa adds:
“Our enemy never wants a testimony to come from our lips. Hence, he never wants us to experience freedom, truth, and redemption. Whether or not the dust of our lives is of our own making, he never wants it to get into the hands of God.”
Finally, Satan only wants us to see destruction, death, and defeat. In that way his accusations deafen us to God’s redemptive work. Satan may be vicious, but certainly not victorious!
