Adult fleas are familiar to most folks. They blood feed on pets, wildlife and sometimes on people. One kind is particularly odd, in that the adult burrows into the skin. At best, this can be unpleasant and uncomfortable. At worst, the site can become secondarily infected by bacteria and cause real havoc. Wearing shoes in tropical locations where this flea occurs can dramatically reduce the chances of hosting this flea. Those shoes will also help protect against hookworms as well.
