Alright, so a friend and I, another writer I met on AO3 that goes by tunnelscreamer (same name for tumblr), thought that it was something of an injustice that this extremely fashion-forward, elegant Gelfling did not have an official name beyond that of ‘Well-dressed Vapran Lady’. I mean, Freckles got a name, so why not Little Miss Muffet here, right?
First, we started off with a nickname. TS gave her the nickname ‘cream puff’, which I found both hilarious and appropriate, and then we just sort of worked up from there. To me, she always looked like the Gelfling version of Effie Trinket (if you take the above photo and mix it with the curlier hairstyle she had during the first movie’s Reaping scene). However, we wanted her to have her very own, more Gelfling-like name, so we kept the Effie, lost the Trinket, because...to be honest, she’s wearing plenty of them already. Don’t want her to tip over from a weight imbalance or something. Seriously, she looks about one bobble or scarf away from a very painful loss in Jenga: the game: personified.
Anyway, all kidding aside, we came up with a bunch of variations of the name, somewhere around 20 or so (not kidding), voted for our choices and ended up both choosing the same name. My fellow Dark Crystal fans, here we now have, created through serendipitous circumstances...Effiny. The name embodies the SEAS that border Ha-rar’s shores: Simple. Elegant. Affluent. Spoiled. You gotta admit, it harkens back to The Hunger Games Effie pre-character growth. This gelf knows how to party lavishly and then throw up and keep gorging just like any other member of the Capitol citizenry. Someone photoshop her into a Hunger Games Capitol crowd pic and tell me she doesn’t fit right in.
And now: The Self-Promotion (with a little Self-Deprecation mixed in for fun)
Effiny will be featured in a fic of mine on AO3 that I promise to any fans I may have that I’m still working on (just got some kinks to work out in chapter 6), as well as in one of tunnelscreamer’s fics, though not by name (we were still workshopping it at the point TS posted). Their fic is called The Love Charm, it’s a great oneshot featuring Tavronica and Cadia. Mine is called Meet Me by the Seafarer’s Lantern under the same pseudonym used by myself on here: dkscribe88. A less updated version is also on ff.net. It is much better than the first chapter and summary might suggest, at least I fuckin’ hope so. And it’s my first rated M fic, although it’s mostly T, but either way, kiddies stay away, and some parts NSFW, okay?
The point is, Effiny will play a supporting role to one of our two main protags: Tavra of Ha’rar as she disobeys her mother to meet up with equally sexy girlfriend Onica of the Sifa, as they both tell tales of life, tragedy, war, hatred, friendship, love and what have you. As I said, better than I can summarize. Effiny will debut in chapter 7 and hopefully you’ll get it before the summer. That’s about all I can vaguely predict for a release date on that due to having other projects and things to do. Such is life.
