Happy birthday, TurkTseng [drabble]
Cissnei had looked forward to this day: Eden's Tseng's birthday. She had started wondering about the exact date a while ago, at a passing glance in Reno's files of his birthday celebration drinkingparty. The two hour search mission that had followed her discovery - a self-imposed mission to find out Tseng's birthday hadn't really been two hours. It was less. Totally less.
She had then checked the calender in the main office, and yes, he worked that day, but he would be free in the evenings.
So it really is his birthday, she'd thought.
She had counted down the months. No... not 'counted down,' the words 'kept track of' sounded better. She had simply kept an eye on Tseng and on the calender and casually hoped he wouldn't be shot down in the mean time because her present had been fairly expensive.
Cissnei clenched her hands around the tiny pink box in her hands, and wound her thumb around the bow.
The shop had run out of green ribbon, so she had cut off the red bow. In a warm Needles&Threads shop she had bought a green ribbon, which she had tried to tie around the package. Knots were not her forte, but the YouTube tutorial had provided an outcome. It had taken her a few goes, but the rend result looked nice. Green was his favourite colour, right? She wondered if he'd be impressed with her Mideelian double inverted clover bow.
If he asked, she would tell the girl at the shop tied it like that.
Every possible version of this upcoming conversation had run through her head at least twice.
Green is your favourite colour? What a coincidence.
This present is something I thought you'd like because you always look so lonely, I mean, busy. You don't have to use it.
I happen to know your birthday because you mentioned it last year, that's all.
She heard footsteps from the other side of the L-shaped corridor.
She glanced around the corner. Was it Tseng? Shit, yes, it was him.
She leaned back, straightened her shoulders, took a deep breath. She pressed her lips together. This was it. This was her moment.
The tall, dark and handsome director of the Shin-Ra Department of Administrative Research turned around the corner. Tseng's dark and unamused eyes were on her. He stopped walking. He looked like he was about to ask why she was snooping about as if she was laying an ambush.
She had anticipated on this question, she would answer that 'snooping about' was her job, and that this was perfectly fine to do so during work hours.
Then the first part of the conversation passed unspoken, as Tseng saw the package in her hands.
"Hi boss," Cissnei chirped. Her voice was high in her throat.
She scooted a step closer until she was toes-to-toes with him. She stood on her tippy-toes to hastily press a peck on his cheek.
"Happybirthday-hope-ye-like-it," she said, shoved the package into his chest.
He automatically put his hands around it.
"Cissnei, could you look at this?" Juget called out at the perfect -and pre-planned- timing.
Cissnei scooted past him. She hurried to her colleague, and away from her boss. The tension that had been building up for months was leaving her body all at once. Her cheek burned.
That was it. She had done it. She had kissed his cheek. She had given the present. It was over.
"Well? How was it?" her friend asked. The willow-like beauty with the silver hair leaned forward to hear the outcome.
To her surprise, she realized she had been so nervous that she had been so concentrated on herself and how she'd come across, that she now barely remembered how his cheek had felt on her lips.
"Rough skin? Soft skin? Minor stubble? Did he look happy?" Juget asked.
In his office, Tseng sat down on his chair. He examined the package from all sides, before slipping the bow off. He lift the lid from the small box, and put it aside. He dipped two fingers in the box, and pulled out a slip of paper.
COUPON, it read at the op in big pink 3D letters that were on fire. The name "Eden" was written on a dotted line. "This coupon allows ...Eden ... to request 1 drabble or roleplay from ...Aisha... about any Final Fantasy VII OTP of any genre excluding/including any kind of NSFW. Expiration date: 1 year."
At the bottom were various logos and codes that testified of the validity of the coupon. The Shin-Ra logo and the Tumblr logo stood side by side.
The validation code read 001H1-APP00Y-B1RTH-DAY97.
