Good grief…
Perhaps he should’ve known better at that point, to at least keep an emergency umbrella in his briefcase, as to prevent situations precisely like the one he’s found himself in.
Well, himself and the young woman to his side, who was pressing against the outer wall of some nearby establishment to shield herself as much as possible from the pouring rain. He’d been on his way back to the office from an errand, and they bumped into each other on the way – and given that she was a trusty secretary, he found no issue in accompanying her to the building. He even almost managed some small talk, but the weather chose that exact moment to interrupt them with a crash of thunder as the sky darkened in moments and a wall of pouring water fell upon them.
Grumbling under his breath, he stole a quick glance at his watch – already running late… – and then followed suit after Daedra, pressing his back against the wall ( first assessing just how dirty that would render his jacket ). If he were some of the men he’d known, he’d simply throw the briefcase over his head and run towards the office, but he had too much respect for the documents in it ( and for his shoes ) to attempt such a thing. Besides, it would have been extremely unbecoming to leave a young lady behind.
“Perhaps a taxi is in order…”
The rain came quite suddenly that afternoon. Perhaps she should have given more credit to the weather news that day. Daedra silently berated herself as she took shelter under the building awning. She’d brought her umbrella to work today... but the bright sunshine from the window convinced her she could leave it back at her desk when she went out.
The joke was clearly on her...
The redhead quietly watched the steady downpour as it hit the streets and sidewalks. She didn’t mind rain in general, it was usually very nice when it fell so calmly like this, no wind or chill. But, right now she had to get back to answering the phones and filing.
It seemed Mr. Edgeworth was in a similar predicament. the few times she occasionally glanced over to him, he seemed to be fidgeting and checking the time on his watch.
“Oh, do you really think that would be necessary?” she asked, before jerking a bit when she realized how that must have sounded. “Ah... I suppose you do have very important meetings to be in all day, Mr. Edgeworth. It just seems like quite a loss of money for the short distance.”
Taxi prices in the city were outrageous! She’d never be able to afford using them so often, and even with buses, she tended to try and walk on particularly beautiful days.
