“ you are too moping. ” max protested, rolling her eyes. “ i’ve lived with you this long, you think i don’t know your moping mixtape by now ? ” invited in or not, she moved to sit on the edge of the bed and stare at billy. were things between siblings supposed to be this hard ? then again, neither of them exactly had anything to compare it with. billy wasn’t the best brother, most times she wouldn’t even call him a friend, and max just knew she’d likely regret getting into a conversation with him later but he had had the same mixtape on REPEAT all damn day.

Asking for help was not something that came easy to Max, she hated any sign of weakness, defences built up tall, especially around her step-brother, things were different now, not quite the same volatility in their relationship that there had once been, but after almost dying at the hand of the same sadistic half scorched demon sorcerer there was a little more of a quiet solidarity between them. They weren’t close, far from it, but things were a little more peaceful.

Today was a bad day, the kind where she didn’t even want to get out of bed, much less leave the house, she hated her wheelchair, in spite of the freedom it gave it, hated the reminder of what vecna took from her, her vision would never fully recover, but the doctors were hopeful that she’d walk again, after extensive physical therapy, which she had today and with her mom at work she couldn’t take her, enter Billy, rolling herself down the narrow hallway to his room she knocks, sighing to herself, kicking the door weakly with her foot to open it, “hey uh -- mom got called into work and I have PT this afternoon, d’ya think you could maybe drive me? If not I can ask Steve I guess.”
