6. popular anime you didn’t like, 12. anime that should get more attention from others, 24. popular character you hate
6. This is going to sound completely contradictory considering this blog, but hear me out: Sword Art Online post-episode 7. The first seven eps were made up of all I wanted in an anime of this genre: intense despair, terror, fury, torment, death, guilt, murder, conspiracy, tears, mental/emotional turmoil, etc., with moments of warmth, friendship, family, kindness, selflessness, love, etc., interspersed therein! However, after that, starting with episode 8…it’s like the writers were whacked upside the head so they lost all their creativity, forgot who their own characters were, forgot how to write quality and consistent storylines, and especially lost sight of what we, the fans, actually wanted to see! I literally have written up a several thousand-word, couple-page rant on everything wrong with the series from that point on, but it’s not worth putting here because that’s not really what the question called for. I’ve gone on long enough already. lol. (For the record, in my opinion: the Fairy Dance arc was a little better (only because of Sugu), and I haven’t and probably won’t watch SAO II because the series has disappointed me way too much already. My patience for it crash-landed in ep 8 and proceeded to be murdered more and more with each ep.)
12. Well, I would say One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, and others that escape me at the moment, but those are damn popular already (and rightly so)! So, I’m just going to say: Yes! Pretty Cure 5 (and, while it’s not quite as good at the original (except for Syrup! What a cutie! I ship him with Nozomi hardcore!), for closure’s sake, its sequel, Yes! Pretty Cute 5 GoGo!). It’s mostly a conventional magical girl show, but the plot is simple-yet-can-be-complex (the latter more in the slice of life areas), (nearly all)the characters are amazing, and their development is beautiful!
24. Again, this might sound completely contradictory considering this blog, and I really hope I don’t get hate or lose followers for expressing my honest opinion, but: Asuna Yuuki (and before you ask or flame, no, for the love of God, it is not a shipping thing). Pre-episode 8, I actually was enjoying her characterization and very much looking forward to what they were going to do with her and her and Kirito’s partnership on the frontlines. Post-episode 7, however, they made her completely OOC (her personality totally spun on its heel, more and more with each ep, oftentimes even more frequently), the Yui thing is another rant entirely, and that’s not even mentioning what her piss-poor characterization did to poor Kirito’s potential/characterization… (Let me be clear: I love the Asunas (and Yui) I RP with because I feel they write Asuna (and Yui) the way she should be written. I love those partners so much for bringing out the Asuna who should be.)
So, yeah. Hope that satisfies your curiosity, Timey!
