Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
In dynamic habitats where the availability of resources can change on a dime, speed is everything. That's probably why the turquoise killifish has the fastest rate of maturity of any vertebrate- individuals are able to mate just 14 days after hatching! Unfortunately, this rapid aging also means they don't live for very long; most killifish only live to be about 2 months old in the wild.
