so would you mind actually explaining the huion scams and/or reblogging the posts about it because I've literally never seen one and I follow a shitload of art blogs. and I mean I didn't really trust the company, but the tablet still works perfectly fine and it's way better than the wacom tablet I had. (the only problem I have is remembering the order of opening things to get it to work with sai lol but other than that? like idk maybe I got lucky)
Man, I saw the latest rebuttal posts a few days ago, but I can’t find them anymore. Googling online, it seems some people have indeed been fairly lucky that their tablet (or the pen) doesn’t just stop working like two weeks in, and maybe there’s differences between specific models of the tablets, but there’s a bunch of shady stuff about the company, mainly that the advertising image and the actual product aren’t the same, the pen often arrives faulty or breaks early, bad customer service to get replacements, limited features (especially compared to some of what’s been advertised), problems with software, the fact that there’s like three differently named companies selling the exact same tablets and using very similar advertising schemes etc.
Again, since I couldn’t find the original posts, I’d suggest people reading some of the Amazon reviews (and note the ratio of positive to negative reviews), and this overview (which unfortunately is kinda laden with swearing and some ableist slurs, so content advisory just in case).
Basically if you’ve gotten lucky with your tablet and are okay with the features available, it’s fine, but I’m just trying to caution people against getting caught up in the hype and buying one without doing their research.
EDIT: Welp serves me right for not doing ALL of my research before publishing a post (what can I say I get nervous of making people wait, plus it’s late). After some more searching online, it might also turn out that it’s Huion that makes the legit decent tablets and Turcom, Tursion and Monoprice (or whatever all these interchangeable companies are named) are pretty much cheap and flimsy Huion rip-offs, using images of Huion tablets in their advertising.
(@keelahsomethigh tagging you because the discussion got started on your blog)
