so I guess All Might and the other pros are enabling Deku here, huh? I don’t know how to feel about it. like, on the one hand that means he’s less alone, but I don’t exactly trust them to keep him from being self-sacrificing

ALSO it took me a minute to figure out why the panel where Deku is comforting Inko looked off to me but then I realized it’s HIS EYES. they’re doing that weird white pupil thing the whole chapter. this boy is not alright. he’s putting on a facade of strength and calm and I’m so scared for him. it made me think of Shindo and now I want a moment where Bakugo takes one look at Deku, just like when Shindo was introduced, and can immediately tell he’s faking it 🐢

I'm honestly not sure if he's faking it. I think he is certainly pushing himself to take on this more tough exterior, definitely, but I think he's still very genuine in his mission and wanting to save people and keep the people he cares about safe. Which is why he left, and I also really appreciate that Endeavor and Hawks and All Might are with him.

I do want Bakugou and Todoroki or SOMEONE from the class to try and find him, but I don't know if that's what will happen.

I like how it's him, Hawks and Endeavor though, because it kinda seems like the set up for the third movie, and it gives me hope that we'll get Bakugou and Todoroki at his side for The Three Musketeers!

oh gosh I have to jump in on the platonic/romantic conversation! I’m aromantic, and I always have a special place in my heart for character duos with a relationship that’s difficult to define, because I think it speaks to a connection that is somehow beyond either romantic or platonic. that’s an important concept to me since I can’t have a romantic relationship with someone, so I focus on valuing people in my life just as highly but in other ways. with bkdk I ship it in both senses and whatever happens I know it’s going to be good 😌 🐢

the english translation just seemed kinda weird in general this week. like accuracy aside, this wasn’t very good dialogue. there’s even a bit where jirou says “much” twice in the same bubble. like... my guy, maybe try saying your phrases out loud to check these kinds of things?

are the fan scans any better? I think using them could be forgiven in this context lol 🐢

The fan scans have actually been a lot closer to the original recently.

They've had some rough patches, as usual, but the important dialogue seems to be alright for the most part, from what I've seen around at least

some more positives this episode: I can’t get enough of Deku’s face when Shinsou was talking about how he isn’t here to make friends, and how that inexplicably made Deku super excited. so... even if the bkdk scene was underwhelming, at least we know bones understands Deku has a way with the edgy boys lol. plus we’ve still got “keep your eyes on me” coming soon

also I’m just so here for Shinsou in general so I’m pumped to see all of this animated 🐢

Yeah Deku's excitement toward Shinsou made me really happy, it was probably the highlight of the episode for me

not to detract from Bakugou Day so feel free to answer this tomorrow, but has anyone ever put people calling Deku an annoying or otherwise unappealing protagonist in the context of toxic masculinity? like, let him be visibly emotional, anxious, and excitable. let him acknowledge that he’s had a lot of help from others. he’s so kind and polite. he loves and cares for his mom. AND he’s a badass with boundless determination. him bein a little ol solftie doesn’t negate that. when I first started watching the anime I was like oh wow cool a male character who gets to cry (and continues to not be ashamed of it despite other characters telling him to calm down, and in the one moment he starts holding back Todoroki is like “idk I think heroes cry when they need to”). I was so disappointed to find that some people cited this as a reason for hating on him. like HELLO do you not see what you’re implying here 🐢

oh heck you’re right! it would be such neat twist if it turned out Deku needed help with this fight after all even after it looked like he owned Muscular so hard. if nothing else it sounds like Shindo’s quirk had a delayed impact that helped a lot so so much for working alone 😏 personally I was hoping the civilians would step in or at least say something and maybe they still can 🐢

as much as I was hoping to hear from Bakugo this chapter, it’s probably better this way. now that the fight is over there’s plenty room for a flashback and/or perspective shift that could put him and his reaction in the spotlight. fingers crossed! 🐢

lowkey I really want Horikoshi to use the symbolism of middle school Bakugo dying in the actual manga panels and I hope that was one of the reasons he scrapped the illustration 🐢
