I imagine you dropping him into boiling water, preparing to nibble on the first meat you'd had in 5 years. I imagine you looking at him, nervously snickering and saying, "Sorry, little buddy," and letting out a squeal as you release him from your hands. But remember, hungry hitch-hiker stew is not the only stew in which this turtle has swum. Turtles have long simmered in the stew of oceans, of rivers, and most of all, of time. Your turtle was born of water and died of water. He embodies creation, rebirth and courage: these, as well as a full belly, are the gifts he gives you as you move forward with your own journey.
