Isla Mujeres, a paradise of Quintana Roo
Isla Mujeres is one of the magical towns of Quinta Roo that you can meet on your next flights to Cancun Mexico, since it is located northeast of the city and has only 8 kilometers long and a half kilometer wide. It is an ideal place to enjoy the beach, its great variety of marine life and its crystalline waters, and unlike its sister island Cozumel; it enjoys a little more tranquility and is relatively more accessible. To the east of the island is the Caribbean Sea with its rocky coastline, to the north is the center of the city and Hidalgo Street, which is an important area for eating and entertainment, is on this side of the island where is the famous North Beach.
Beginning to tour the island
To visit Isla Mujeres it is necessary to take the Ferry, which has regular ferry departures from the Hotel Zone of Cancun or from Puerto Juarez. The journey takes between 15 and 20 minutes and the rates vary depending on where you take it. The ferry will arrive near the north end of Isla Mujeres from where you can enter the main area of the island, the city has shops, restaurants, bars and everything you need to have a perfect time. There is also the option to visit El Garrafón Marine Park, which is a popular beach site and ideal for swimming, where you can go snorkeling, mountain hiking, zip-lining, swimming with dolphins, kayak, snuba and diving tours, the site subject also has establishments for dining and showers.
The lighthouse at Punta Sur is part of the nautical museum, around the lighthouse there is a small tourist village where you can see works of modern art, northwest of the lighthouse is the Tomb of Caracol, an archaeological vestige dedicated to Ixchel, deity of the Mayan culture.
Located south of Isla Mujeres, we will find the Turtle Farm, better known as "Tortugranja", a project funded by the government and donors, with the objective of protecting giant sea turtles. If you want to visit the Farm and observe the turtles you can do it from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the entrance costs $ 30 pesos.
