Silna begins the story terrified because she knows what the men on the ships do not: Their empire has no dominion over the Tuurngaq. They think they can put their flag in the soil and shoot their guns and canons and everything will bow to them. She knows that they are not going to survive just by being there. She knows they are all marked for death. Her fear is certainty

She ends the story terrified because they did kill it. They poisoned and killed the Tuurnbaq. And suddenly the fear is now existential dread and uncertainty- if men from countries with big boats and big factories can warp the rules of nature, how much further can they go? How much further would they go for the economy?

alternatively, if you got many reqs of tozer and gibson already (since i initially requested gibtozer), i think silna with the ship animals (any of your choosing) would be neat <3

The Tuurngaq's death is the most tragic in the show because it represents how industry is successfully poisoning and choking and murdering the Arctic. I'm not even discussing the show I'm talking about the real Arctic. Arctic animals are becoming increasingly endangered year by year. Flowers have appeared in the Arctic where they should not be. Oil companies want to drill and build pipe-lines in Alaska and Siberia that will ruin ecosystems for migrating species. Melting permafrost destroys landscapes and towns. Companies get away with destroying communities and their traditions because a lot of them are poorer and indigenous populations (eg. look up the Yamal-Nenets and how oil affects reindeer hearding). I'm not trying to be a doomer, but I'm saying you should all see this show as a call to protect the Arctic.
