I’ve noticed recently that I’m kind of done with will-they/won’t-they relationships on TV. Idk if it’s because after discovering Mad About You and Madam Secretary before that I realized that a good, healthy stable marriage where the two characters genuinely like each other and are friends is way more enjoyable than the stress of wondering if a couple is going to get together. And then a lot of times when a will they/won’t they couple gets together, the build up to it is the only part of the relationship that’s exciting. A lot of writers don’t seem to know how to write established couples and make them interesting. Or they throw a lot of drama at them to “keep it interesting” (ASP with Luke and Lorelai. That could have been a great relationship if ASP and DP just let them be a happy couple after getting together at the end of season 4, but the drama in season 6 tarnished the whole relationship for me, tbh). The exception to this is John and Aeryn on Farscape.

Also I really love Johnny/Moira on Schitt’s creek.

My Top 3 TV Married Couples

So I saw a photoset that made me think  of this. There are a lot of couples I’ve liked on TV over the years, but if I had to pick my top 3 married couples of all time on TV, at the moment it’s these three.

1. Shelagh and Patrick Turner–Call the Midwife 

2. Gomez and Morticia Addams–The Addams Family (original TV show)

3. Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate-Dwyer–Parks and Recreation

Just looking at the three pairs together, I realize how different they are. Still, I think one thing all three couples have in common is how supportive and encouraging both partners in each relationship are toward one another, and how much they just seem to truly enjoy one another’s company.
