It's often claimed that villain x heroine shippers ship them only bcs they project onto the female half of the ship and want to live out their fantasies for the male half through her. Most of the times, such claims have a patronizing tone and are meant to undermine the shippers' interpretation of the characters as if people who just enjoy the dynamics that two particular characters share don't exist and as if those who project are any less.
But existing alongside it is another prominent fantasy that is rarely subjected to an unfair level of scrutiny simply because it is more socially acceptable: the fantasy of an unproblematic and good guy - the eternally green flag - who won't give you any drama or trouble and who is non threatening, who offers stability and, most importantly, represents security and safety. And honestly, this is understandable because many women are conditioned since an early age that they are to avoid danger and risks at all costs. Protecting them, at times unintentionally, becomes an excuse to keep them confined within the walls of their household. The promise of safety becomes the cage and comfort its furnishings. Yet, even that cage doesn't make women less vulnerable to harm.
This is why fiction matters because it is one realm where there is room for every kind of fantasy. Here, women can be safe and protected till the end of their days. Simultaneously, they can also partake in dangerous relationships and situations and end up victorious. Yet, it is the latter that gets subjected to derision, judgment and policing while the former is not only left unchecked but is arbitrarily imposed on every story.
There is an expectation placed on fictional female characters across genres, and irrespective of background and personality, to stick to safe and 'vetted' relationships, if they are to have a romance at all. In a dark and messed up dynamic with a male character, their only identity can be that of a victim and everything else must cease to exist. It is also expected from creators and audience to not 'romanticize' the said dynamic. It shackles these characters and strips them off their individuality. It turns them into one homogenous symbol and restricts their potential for complexity. Worse is when real women who write and enjoy such stories are punished in a bid to 'protect' the fictional woman who doesn't need their protection in the first place. It is tiresome.
You cannot protect women by caging their imagination, dictating what kind of stories they can enjoy and shackling the ways they prefer to interpret the said stories.
du You have any tips on romance since im trying to make 3 (mlm, wlm, wlw)romances and i don't know if their going to be good
i'm not an expert in writing romance but here are some things i consider very important:
1) compatibility: compatability is not chemistry. it's not simply "they look good together" or "they've got good banter". it raises the question of do these two characters work together? do they balance each other out? are they similar or opposites? are they too similar or too different? how does this impact their relationship? how do they influence each other?
it's always interesting to see two characters influence each other in a relationship, for better or for worse, to see them change and grow with each other, rather than staying stagnant.
a good example of this is Sokka and Suki from ATLA. Suki taught Sokka to unlearn his prejudices, while Sokka allowed Suki to be more relaxed and have fun. it's the sign of a healthy relationship — to accept criticism and introduce new perspective.
2) development: a good romance needs some time to develop. if you introduce two characters and then they fall madly in love after spending a day with each other, that's not a good romance.
you don't have to make it an excruciatingly long slowburn, but you do need to take time and let the characters get to know each other and spend time with each other.
i've always found that friendship is the best foundation to a good relationship. they don't have to start off as friends but friendship should be an equation in their overall relationship.
Lisa Frankenstein does this really well in the span of one movie. Lisa and the Creature is one of my favorite romantic relationships in media, and it's because they actually spend time with each other.
they don't just look at each other and immediately fall in love. they learn about each other, indulge in hobbies together, help each other out (albeit in increasingly horrifying ways) and confide in each other. and all of this is done while the Creature was mute for 99.9% of the movie. that's good writing!
3) conflict: relationships are bound to have conflict. and no, conflict isn't abuse or cheating. it can be something as simple as two characters disagreeing on something.
healthy relationships can have conflicts too. or you can go the unhealthy route, as long as you don't romanticize it. conflict is also a way to highlight the individual characters.
how do they respond to conflict? do they get angry and frustrated? do they talk things out calmly? do they avoid having the conversation altogether?
Superman (2025) does this well with the scene where Lois interviews Clark. they're not an unhealthy or toxic couple by any means, but it's still interesting to see them navigate a difference in opinions. this also paints a bigger picture of each of them as characters — Clark being the bright-eyed idealist and Lois being more jaded and cautious.
these are the 3 main points i can think of, that i feel like are the building blocks of an interesting and well-written ship. but if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!
Eurydice and Orpheus coded relationships my beloved
If you love her, then go to therapy for her. If you want to protect her, find healing for yourself so you don't give her trauma as a result of not dealing with your own trauma.
(not gonna say any names, but one of them rhymes with Ritz cracker, and the other one is his best friend.... *cough cough*)
Writers of tumblr: when you write romance, do you prefer it to be heathy or unhealthy?

Okay, so my opinion on what's going on right now in the FNAF fandom. I do not support age gaps. I think it is creepy. So I looked up Vincent's og age.
At the bite of November 1987 accident with Mike, Vincent was 27. But when Mike got older, Vincent got too. Maybe about 20 years passed, so Vincent at that point was in his late 40's when he worked with others. I do not like or support the og AU (also once Rebornica replaced Vincent with Andros, which was more of canon FNAF take, where Andros was Mike's dad and the puppet was his ma). Makes me shiver.
If we are at this point, we can't ship og JereMike, because they have more of a father-son dynamic, with Mike teaching him and cheering him up like a father figure, or PurplePhone, because og Vincent was pushing himself onto og Scott who didn't wanted it, and didn't really loved him. Vincent never took Scott's "no" for an answer, which is also unsettling, or DollMike, because Mike have a soul of Faith in him. Same with selfships. If a character is much older/younger than you, you shouldn't selfship. You can't pick morality. You either follow it all, or not at all.
So, my take on this is, if your AU's story is diffrent enough (diffrent enough to be it's own diffrent seperate story, and also have more similiar character ages) than canon Rebornica one, then that's okay (like with FNAF UCN and Five Nights at Frickbear's 3. Same concept, diffrent story, diffrent takes). Unless there are morally questionable things, then no, I don't support that, please go.
We all took our own takes on this Rebornica AU. With our own diffrent stories, diffrent designs, diffrent takes, diffrent ships. Seperating it from original Rebornica AU. Like, my Fritz is trans woman, Scott is as evil as Vincent, Doll and Chris are awsome siblings, and so on. As long as it don't have weird things like og had, I don't really care. To be honest, I don't really ship that much. Maybe Scott and Vincent, or Mike and Doll (not og ones, AU ones). So yeah.
As for the argument in the fandom. If you are calling someone a larper, that doesn't really help the already small fandom. It's better to ignore, or educate someone on why the og AU was and still is bad, than calling someone names. I hope we seperate our own AUs from the og one, and make it our own thing, ignoring and/or forgetting the og AU and Rebornica themselfs. Don't give them an attention. It's better to move on from them.
And please, don't compare other's AU to the og one. If it's AU ship with similiar ages, then leave it be. However, if you'll see a weird AU ship, just block it, and ignore it. Do not give them your attention. Also yes, if someone does something morally wrong, you can call the behaviour out. But only after having evidence of the doing, not by just a word.
(Personal note: I wanna add that I was the victim of age gap relationship years ago, where an older guy took advantage of me online. I know it is awful. And I don't wish it upon anyone. We had to move because of it. But also, it makes me feel sad, maybe even dissapointed when we treat fictional characters like if it was a real person or a real situation. Real events are much more scary than a fanfic, because it happened in real world, and it involves real people. Please, if you really wanna help, donate to charities that helps people that left their awful relationship situation. And if you know one, check on them if they are doing okay. Also no, don't feel pity or worry for me. I don't want it. I just wanna forget that this happened to me. I wanna move on and leave it behind.)
