Behold: the shed kittens. A feral cat broke into my shed while I was on vacation and had 3 kittens in there. I’m hoping to be able to TVNR the momma and socialize the kittens so they can get adopted out, but I’ve never done this before. Today I risked picking them up for the first time and they’re so small they don’t care at all. They all look round and healthy (hopefully it’s not worms). They’re very cute and I don’t wanna lose them.
I finally have achieved what I was waiting for: all three kittens, safe in my basement, ready to be dropped off for spay/neuter tomorrow morning. I picked up big poppa and brought in the mystery cat this morning, only to discover that the mystery cat was already ear tipped and I accidentally brought them in for no reason. Lesson learned: check your cats in daylight. I returned them and big poppa to the backyard this afternoon. Then I halfheartedly set two of three traps with wet food, not expecting anything. At 6:30, I went to check and found Nessie in one trap, Yeti in the other, and Sasquatch loose in the shed. I quickly grabbed my third trap and was able to pick Sasquatch up and drop him in. He didn’t care at all and got wet food for his trouble. Sorry for the terrible quality photos: trapped kittens are hard to photograph.
Ok so today in attempting to catch the kittens news I have another WILD TWIST: I have now caught this random feral I’ve never seen before lololol. I bought KFC cause apparently it’s irresistible to cats and I haven’t seen the kittens in two days now. Just went out to check the traps and here is this guy. I’m assuming he’s a guy? He has a square head but he’s too spicy to get a good look at him. So god only knows how big this colony actually is
In an even more shocking turn of events, my second catch of the day was ALSO not a kitten lol. All of my kittens are MIA but this is big poppa, he of the giant balls, so I’m glad he’s getting a quick neuter too. Hopefully while they’re away the kittens won’t be scared off and will return? Fingers crossed 🤞
In a wild turn of events, I have not trapped a single kitten so far today, but I did secure lil mama. There are still two traps set overnight in the shed so I’m hoping I catch a kitten or two (the entrance to the shed is pretty small so I don’t think a skunk or raccoon will fit). The spay appointment dropoff is between 8-9 AM so we shall see. But at the very least this little lady has had her last litter of kittens.
