TW! Guns!
Okay so let me start out by saying I know this isn’t strictly a southern US thing, but its the only experience I have to work with. Yesterday was a pretty standard day, in fact, it started out pretty wonderful. I had met a cab driver who was pretty cool and an open-minded older person I met a woman with her son and she told me about her wife and her kid talked on and on about the legos he wanted to build and it was pretty good. later this family of 3 come in, no big deal a standard set really, I was annoyed when the mother was very blunt about her daughter’s mental handicap by looking to me saying she couldn’t read AFTER she had already said aloud “do you want me to read the titles” like I could have gotten the context clues I doubt your kid wants you shoving this information as hard as you can. but that is not where my biggest problem came from, me and the father were having a casual conversation when he noticed the pinball machines. and as he stepped over I happed to see a holstered handgun just strapped to his hip and my world went on tilt. Did I think he was going to do anything? no not really but then again I never would really know. so despite this man seeming nice enough I can’t help but think over and over again “he has a weapon on him, a weapon specifically made for hurting other people, be it in defense or offense that is what it is meant to do there is nothing stopping this man for using that thing for it’s intended purpose and there is nothing I can do.” I hear the phrase a lot around here “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” and “guns are made for hunting.” but here is a counterpoint people made guns, that handgun is not a gun you take to shoot a deer. It’s like saying “Nets don’t catch fish, men catch fish.” and you’d be right, men do catch fish, but a net is a tool they use to do it. So I don’t want to hear anyone pretend that open carry makes everyone safer. because that dangerous person who might carry a knife to harm someone now has the choice to use something far more dangerous.
