You see, death doesn’t happen to you Lydia. It happens to everyone around you, okay? To all the people left standing at your funeral, trying to figure out how they’re gonna live the rest of their lives now without you in it.

See, that’s the problem. You don’t care about getting hurt.
That sounds sufficiently terrifying.

“Master Plan” Alternatives
@poseyslegtattoo set off my hatred of “Master Plan Mania” this morning, so I am going to post. There is nothing that gets the gears of my eternal hatred moving as fandom’s response to that scene. Post after post, fiction after fiction, has Scott derided by everyone for that scene, especially Sidekick Stilinski.
I have a question I ask them then. “What was he supposed to do in that scene? What were his alternatives?” The Kanima had shrugged off every single goddamn thing they had done to it -- Derek, Scott, Isaac, and Chris had all done their best to fight it and hadn’t even slowed it down.
They don’t answer, because there isn’t any other answer. If Scott had said “No” what do you think that Gerard was going to do? Say “Oh, Drat, foiled by teenage stubbornness?” No. In the worst case scenario, he would have had Jackson murder every single person in that room and have Jackson force Derek to give him the bite. In better scenarios, he would have paralyzed Allison, Chris and Scott, murdered Isaac, and then had Jackson force Derek give him the bite. Then, after the poison set in, Derek and Scott would have been dead, at the least.
There was no alternative. None. The only thing that saved them in that scene was Scott’s tricking Gerard with the mountain ash pills. The only thing.
But only Derek gets to lie to people to accomplish a positive end, as in Season 1 where he lied to Scott to find the identity of the alpha.
“Master Plan” Mania
Gerard Argent, Geriatric Psychopath corners 16-Year-Old Boy in his bedroom in a towel, with his murder-machine lizard strangling his mother: “Let her go? I’m afraid I can’t do that. Let her live? That depends entirely on you.”
Gerard Argent, Geriatric Psychopath at a 16-Year-Old Boy’s lacrosse game proceeding to threaten the entire freaking main cast: “Maybe I’ll just have Jackson rip someone’s head off right on the field and drench everyone you love and care about in blood.”
Gerard Argent, Geriatric Psychopath is interrupted by the 16-Year-Old Boy from bisecting another 16-year-old boy.
Gerard Argent, Geriatric Psychopath having his pet murder-machine lizard hold a 16-year-old’s girlfriend by the throat with his claws: “If it comes to survival, I’d murder my own son.”
Derek Hale, Broody, Uncommunicative Werewolf Anti-Hero whose every plan to stop the kanima has failed miserably is paralyzed and helpless in the final confrontation.
16-Year-Old Boy gives into Geriatric Psychopath’s demands to force Broody Anti-Hero to give him the bite.
Fandom: Oh my god! Rape! Rape! Something remotely similar to rape! We will never forgive him!
Common Sense: Maybe he didn’t have any choice, unless you were okay with Allison’s throat being ripped out? Maybe he was under a little more pressure than a normal 16-year-old boy should be?
Fandom: It doesn’t matter! We will never forgive him!
Derek Hale, Broody, Uncommunicative Werewolf Anti-Hero Whose Plans Suck has previously admitted he doesn’t always share information. “Why do you think I’m hiding something from you?” “Because you always are!” “Well, maybe I do it to protect you!”
16-Year-Old Boy had secret plan to defeat Geriatric Psychopath but didn’t choose to share it with Broody Anti-Hero but saves everyone’s lives, including Broody Anti-Hero.
Common Sense: See! He figured something out that protected everyone!
Fandom: We Will Never Forgive Him!
Common Sense: What did you want him to do instead?
Fandom: NEVER. FORGIVE. HIM!
