BULLET POINT REVIEW: TW 6X13 "AFTER IMAGES"
The Good:
People are going to say that nothing happened in this episode. I disagree. This entire episode was a meditation on how relationships influence each member in both good and bad ways. Gerard Argent and Monroe. Scott and Liam. Scott and Malia. Chris Argent and Melissa.
It was a set up. The whole thing. It remind me of nothing less than Letharia Vulpina, where everyone ran around for 35 minutes to the nogitsune's tune just so it could absorb pain from Scott. Gerard set this up to force the people of Beacon Hills to confront what they probably already knew.
Tyler likes low angle shots of people's faces. They heighten discomfort.
The scene with Chris and Melissa in the morgue was top-notch acting. I saw the fear on their faces. I also liked their final scene, which was very subtle.
The wolves were being teenagers, as they were. For everything they did that was smart -- the rock message, following poison -- they did things that looked smart, but didn't -- splitting up, rushing forward.
They're continuing on with the basis of Scott recognizing that Malia cares for him.
Nolan's twitchiness is perfect. He's being used by the fear entity.
The Neutral:
The kid playing Aaron, the fear entity's puppet, isn't menacing enough for me.
Monroe was more in a passive position this time.
Lydia slipped into exposition mode again. Her triggering her powers was the only scene where her personality came through.
The Bad:
Tyler, I know Jeff has tried to convince you that using more than one lightbulb is bad, but please, try in your future endeavors.
