It has come to my attention that they’re creating an LOTR game to ‘directly compete with Hogwarts Legacy’ and nothing has ever scared me more in my entire life.

Ethics of playing HL put aside it’s my understanding that most people didn’t even like the game and that it was kind of weirdly limited?

Personally what I actually want is The Elder Scrolls: Middle Earth Edition.

I want to choose my race, design my character and be able to go ANYWHERE right off the bat. I want my choices to change the story. I want the option to be a total dick if I feel like it.

I have female Dunedain hopes and dreams and I am legit worried that this is not going to be that.

The world of Middle Earth is vast and rich and begging to be made into a large scale RPG where ANYTHING is possible. I don’t want a watered down ‘look it’s just like the movies’ version.

I want to be let loose pre-War of the Ring and be allowed to be an agent of chaos.

I want to have race specific powers and magic.

Playing as an elf? Here’s extra zoom capability when you’re firing a bow.

Playing as an orc? Here’s some crazy berserker defense stats.

Playing as a Ranger? Here’s your healing powers.

Playing as a hobbit? You’re nearly invisible.

I want to interact with canon characters and creatures however I damn well feel like it.

Because I will happily give you 60-80 bucks (you thief) if I get to throat punch Tom Bombadil for a solid fifteen minutes and then go give Eowyn the lesbian ranger happy ending she deserves.

Nothing against Faramir we stan every Captain of Gondor in this house but again: agent of chaos.

I know I’m not the only one who wants this so please for the love of god just forget HL exists and make a good game.

I think a lot about that post that was like "be happy! The HP era is dying! Lunchboxes are on sale! People don't care about it anymore."

Maybe where you are. Where I live it's still everywhere. Everywhere. Just got this month's London Planner and guess what a major theme is. Almost every museum trip I make I go past a store that has a "slave that actually likes being a slave" in the window. It's not just a HP theme store but you wouldn't know it from the front. And yeah, families with kids pose for photos outside it.

There's a reason why famous actors are getting in on the new audio book and whatever. They're not jumping on a dying IP for their own nostalgia or because they want to stick a middle finger at trans people. Not to say they're not transphobic just that it's probably the fact this is still a hugely successful and profitable IP that attracts them more than their hate.

Its everywhere and it sucks and every week I'm reminded "hey this person fighting to take away your rights and the rights of other trans people is still widely celebrated" and I'm glad it's not where you are but it is in the place where she is actually making a definitive difference.
