you get to know a bit about the new magic system in this world cause I think it’s cool as hell.

so magic works a bit differently in this world. It’s set in a post apocalyptic earth. About 300 or so years ago in 2030 a giant crystal was found deep in the earth’s crust. This was the first solid tangible evidence of magic every discovere, but while scientists were trying to study it, they accidentally set it off, causing a giant explosion the likes of which has never been seen before. Killing millions, fucking up the earth, and essentially making Pangaea 2 electric boogaloo

magic in this world is not your normal DND spell, “I cast fireball” shit. It’s much closer to how radioactivity works. And by that I mean direct contact causes horrible disfigurement and most likely death. But after the explosion, a very small amount magic is in everything, the plants, the air, the ground, the animals, the people, everything.

the plants are just slightly off, colors a bit to bright compared to what we know, flowers just not looking exactly how they should, but otherwise not detrimental to anything. Weather has changed drastically, Arcane storms occur when clouds stir in a highly magically charged area for to long and can cause hurricane level wings and rain that turns your skin cells into bone and leaves. The ground itself has changed DRASTICALLY from what we know today, the only things left to remind you of what once was is half destroyed land marks. There’s a mountain where NYC was today, and there’s more lions in Arkansas the Africa now.

but the biggest change is to people and animals, as the bond between us has gotten much stronger. A strange type of magic can occur randomly throughout the life of a human. If they every come in close proximity to an animal at just the right moment, they can bond. Now for the human that won’t change to much physically. A familiar bond is known to sometimes change minor things like hair color, eye color, height, body type, or even strength or speed. But for the animal, now familiar, it can cause much more. They mutate into giant beasts, extra limbs, new abilities, a human-level intellect, and even strange power on some occasion such as hypnosis or acidic spit.

these two beings are now permanently bonded, they feel each other’s pain, share each other’s emotions, and if one dies, so does the other. It’s a partnership closer then any other ever known.

and some seek to exploit it.

I've been doing research into radiation, and I think Cherenkov effect is the closest to what we experience when shifting.

We draw energy to our diodes, there is a sudden flash of light, and then the reaction begins. I've never been able to shift using that means, but from what my headmates say, the shift continues from here.

Cherenkov effect doesn't describe it fully- there is still a lot that we don't do, such as glow blue, but it's a pretty good description of what happens to us.

So you said to like, uhhhh infodump. In the askbox if I finished reading your dni, or tell you abt my fav weather. But my current hyperfixation is the Chernobyl PowerPoint explosion in Ukraine, Pripyat. It makes me do happy taps with my feet :3 okay so I’ll share with you one fact about the explosion and then I’ll be done.

-in Ukraine Pripyat, April 26, 1986, because workers tend to be overworked in such settings, something was missed in the rundown of the machine and people went home. The next morning, when they went to check on it they’d found the core reactor on, and dangerously overheated, so heated that the water they used to cool down the core reactor (which was the part that was heated) evaporated all of the cold water. Bam, pipes burst, pressure built, and since there was no remotely safe way to turn it off, it exploded. (This is my favorite part) When scientists discovered The Elephants Foot (otherwise known as corium, a highly radiated form of energy, left over from the gas they’d used to heat the core reactor) they couldn’t get anywhere near it because of how radioactive and dangerous it is.
