Whenever the couple dances, Hanta tries to dip Rumi, and it always fails. For as lithe his stature and graceful his disposition, he turns absurdly bashful each attempt. Something about the light dripping gold, and how it hits Rumi just so, gets to him.
Forage nights; both suggested and rigged by Hanta so he could win (his dad’s a trapper), whenever the two don’t feel like going into town for groceries, they’ll compete for who can make the best dish using ingredients solely from the woods. Rumi finds a bunny, and Hanta jokingly suggests rabbit stew for dinner. He’s not allowed to come near their new pet for a week after that.
Hanta finds a lute in the woods. At least, that’s what he tells Rumi; confidentially, he uses their cottage’s rent money to buy it from a traveling market, so he can serenade Rumi with it. To make up the financial difference before she notices, he goes on several discreet quests. The secrecy is to keep the surprise and not because he’s absolutely terrified of what Rumi will do if she finds out about his frivolous spending.
Excursions from their sleepy hollow always involve seeing plays. Well, Rumi sees a play, and Hanta continuously bugs her about how impractical and arbitrary the story is. The only play they heckle together is The Taming of The Shrew. The director kicks them out of the theater, but it’s worth it.
A dove flies through their kitchen window with a love letter tied to its leg for Rumi, and Hanta is considerably annoyed. That is, until the realization that he sent the letter while out-of-town as a romantic gesture. Now pride won’t let him admit it, and he has to keep huffing-and-puffing about how the sender is “probably an old man” and “someone as lovely as Rumi could do much better anyway.”
I’ll say it for you, Rumi. “Finally.” I just hope the extras help make the wait a little sweeter -_-
