[Start ID: 6 pages of HLVRAI narrative doodles following Tommy and Darnold's interaction at Chuck E Cheese after Black Mesa. Warning for stuttering (in case that sets anyone off).

Tommy is hugging Sunkist when he spots Darnold, who'd rounded the corner and was watching them, quietly. Darnold is surpised when Tommy asks: "Uhh...Darnold? Would you maybe like to pet him?" while gesturing to Sunkist, the huge dog wearing a goofy blank look of happiness and a party hat to top it off.

Darnold replies: "Oh, uhhh, sure! Let me just..." Sunkist follows his movement as he crouches down, turning his body to a 45 degree angle to not seem confrontational. "Alright," he says, taking off one glove and holding his ungloved hand by his body for Sunkist to approach and sniff, before continuing, "Okay. Sunkist, if you'd like to approach me, I believe you may do so now."

Sunkist gets up immediately, plodding over to sniff Darnold's offered hand. Sunkist's tail begins to wag, which Darnold notes, saying: "Hmm... that's a good sign." Tommy goes: "Oh!"

Darnold scratches Sunkist on the shoulder: "Hey there, doggy!" Bubbles of green sweet voice float out of Sunkist's mouth. Tommy watches in astonishment: "Oh! Darnold, do YOU have a pet dog? You knew how to meet- to approach him so well! Most people just shove their hands in his face." Darnold says: "Aw, no. I mean, I thought about it, but I didn't think I'd have time for a pet." Darnold has removed his other glove as to not rub chemicals into Sunkist's fur, and Sunkist lifts his head as he begins to scratch under the dog's chin. With his nose in the air, Sunkist smells something odd.

"That was just from my research, in case I, uh, encountered a dog and didn't wanna get bit." Darnold continues, waving it off. "But...y'know what? Maybe I am ready for a change." Sunkist, who'd still been sniffing the air, has seemingly found the source hidden in the tied-up sleeve of Darnold's second labcoat. Darnold looks up in reminiscence, smiling slightly and unaware: "I wasn't very experienced with animal-handling before, just the lab mice y'see, but then I met Sasha and...and..." Darnold is suddenly very aware of Sunkist nosing around behind him.

He gets up immediately and sprints off, holding onto the back of his second labcoat: "P-pardon me, I have to excuse myself-" Tommy is left confused, and he turns to Sunkist, who looks back with innocent eyes. "Maybe that was too soon..." Tommy says to him. He hadn't meant to bring up pets and make Darnold upset after having left his Gubb companion back at the facility. Sunkist picks up the gloves Darnold had left behind in his haste with his mouth and brings them to Tommy. Tommy goes to take them from him, saying: "...No...you're right, Sunkist. I'll go, uh, I'll make it right." /End ID.]

"Bye."

Gordon turns and walks back out the door, not looking back. He hears the team calling for him. The anxiety spikes. He picks up the pace, not caring where he's-

"see ya. where you goin' man?"

Gordon lets out a harrowed laugh and backpedals, stumbling backwards into someone. It's Tommy.

"Mr Freeman, wha-"

Gordon grabs him by the arm and pulls them both in the opposite direction until they're at a safer distance. He points at the figure of Benrey, only his upper torso sticking out of the sidewalk still.

"That's not real right? You don't see it? Tell me you don't see it, I'm suh...I'm seeing things."

"...No, that's, uh, that's Benrey, Mr Freeman. Do you not- don't you remember him?"

Y-You will? T-Thank you K-Kaede! S-So are you m-m-my...friend t-then? *blushes slightly and looking down, playing with his jacket sleeves*

GMan sighs forcefully: "...Tommy, I would never doubt your capabilities, but are you quite sure there isn't something more worth your time?" Tommy stands firm: "I made the perfect dog in a week, I can do soil in less." GMan looks at him in quiet surprise for a moment, then he sighs again and turns, walking away: "I shall leave the matter in your hands, gentlemen. I believe you'll require some privacy."

"Report back to me when you're done and, oh - do try to be quick." As his footsteps recede, Tommy's confidence seems to wane. "I lied..." he admits. "The research took 5 years, I- I just happened to be working on the final modifications the week he'd come back from a business trip..." "Thank you, Tommy," Darnold says, surprising Tommy. "...it's the least I could do..." Tommy says sadly, turning around, "but Sasha's-" "-going to be just fine!" Darnold finishes his sentence for him, presenting the last sleep potion bauble to Tommy.

Tommy's eyes widen: "Oh! Wh- uh- oh, you still have one after all this time??" "Ye- precisely! But, uhm, I'm gonna need your help..." Darnold says, pulling out his gun fully, and revealing that it isn't a real gun at all. "Y'see, this isn't a gun. Sure it's a tranquiliser gun from-" His voice switches to his tutorial NPC voice " -THE HIT GAME TEAM FORTRESS 2 -" before returning to normal and continuing, "-but it's not gonna make a convincing gun noise. And we need the gun noise for this to work right. So, uh, if you-" "Oh, don't worry Darnold," Tommy says, pulling out his own gun and waving it casually, "I'll take care of this."

Unaware of all this, Gordon is still sitting at the table in the main room while being pelted secretly with blue sweet voice by a skeleton behind him. "Y'know what?" Gordon says, "No...yeah...Yeah...! I've been stressin' all week, I deserve a goddamn break." He picks up a soda can and readies his new prosthetic hand to open it: "Let's take this baby for a test run, huh?" Suddenly, a gunshot goes off and startles him and the skeleton. Gordon screams and immediately whips around, right fist clenched and aimed in the direction of the noise.

Gordon quickly remembers he does not have a gun arm to shoot with anymore and swears: "FUCK." Bubby raises an eyebrow: "Shooting? At a party? Really? Well, that's sort of rude." Dr Coomer puts a hand to his chest and shakes his head: "Oh dear, what are they teaching the kids these days?" "THAT'S SERIOUSLY YOUR CONCERN?? MANNERS??" Gordon yells, searching himself frantically for another weapon, "Oh FUCK, I don't have a gun-" He stops in his tracks when he sees Darnold at the further end of the room, walking towards GMan with something wrapped up in his second labcoat in his hands while Tommy trails after him. That "something" is Sasha, asleep from the potion to fool GMan. /End ID.]

Darnold hides around the corner in an unlit room. Now that he's alone, he takes off the second labcoat and turns it over. Something in the right sleeve of it wriggles as he unties the two sleeves.

"Ahh...heh. Been a...been a good while, hasn't it?" Darnold says, smiling apologetically. He raises up Sasha, the Gubb still partially in the now untied sleeve of his second labcoat, and beams. "Almost got sniffed out back there, huh? Sorry about that, Sash'..." Darnold says. Sasha chitters at him. "I'm gonna need you to be in there a while longer," Darnold tells her, "B-but! Once we get home, it'll be safe then! You-" He's cut off by a sudden, chilling voice. "What is that you have in your possession, Dr Darnold?"

Tommy slots a coin into the vending machine and retrieves a Dr Pepper. "Stay here, Sunkist, I'll be back soon," Tommy tells Sunkist, signing for his dog to stay put. When he does as told, Tommy says: "Good boy, Sunkist!", signing "good" to him. Happy green sweet voice trails from Sunkist's mouth and the dog wags his tail.

"Darnold?" Tommy calls out, wandering near the room Darnold had run into, "I got you a soda. I hope I didn't offend, uh, make you upset, I-" He cuts himself off when he looks in and spots Darnold. But he's not alone.

"Ah, Tommy. There you are, I've been looking for you." Standing next to a terrified Darnold in front of an open portal door is GMan. Darnold tries to call out to Tommy, but is overlapped by GMan, who asks: "I do hope the party is up to your expectations, hmm?" "Oh, it was okay,- " Tommy replies, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. He points to the portal door. "- but why is the door- the, the portal open?" /End ID.]

[Start ID: 3 pages of HLVRAI narrative doodles following Darnold and his interactions with the Science Team after leaving Sasha in Black Mesa? Warning for stuttering (in case that sets anyone off).

Tommy wringes his hands nervously, havign caught up to Darnold. The latter is silent as Tommy begins to speak: "Darnold? I understand if you don't want to, to talk to me right now, but I thought I...I thought it would be, would've been good if..." he trails off, pressing his knuckles against his temple, "You said it would be temporary, and I...It..." Tommy squeezes his eyes shut, pressing his knuckles harder against his skull to try and concentrate on forming the words he's trying to speak. Eventually, he sighs and hugs his arms, saying: "If...if I had to send- to leave Sunkist...somewhere I would never see her again to keep her- to keep her safe, I..."

Darnold remains silent, back still turned on Tommy. After a long pause, Tommy resumes: "What you did was...it was a hard choice to make...and I'm sorry you had to...do that..." Finally Darnold turns around and looks at him quizzically. "Uhh...I don't know what you're talking about," he says. He walks on ahead, leaving Tommy watching him with an unconvinced look. Dr Coomer joins Tommy, shaking his head in sympathy. "Oh dear, it seems our dear Darnold has succumbed to the first stage of grief," he says.

Later on while on Xen, Darnold pulls out a huge bazooka and starts firing his potion baubles. Gordon whips around, shocked: "Holy shit- A BAZOOKA?!! WHEN THE HELL DID HE GET THAT??" Darnold loads another bauble into the bazooka, replying: "Oh Dr Freeman, I've always had one." He readies it for firing. "I just never had a reason to use it before now." Gordon pauses his firing at a creature to respond: "OH SHIT! OKAY!"

Didn't draw him in the Benrey boss fight, but Darnold could've probably used his evil potion in that.

"Tommy, please! You can't let him take her away!" Darnold pleads. Upon seeing Sasha, Tommy is shocked: "Wuh- wait, uh, huh?? Is that Sasha??!" Darnold cries: "Yes! But- GMan, he-" "Doctor Darnold, it would be wise of us to not prolong this any further," GMan interrupts, pulling out a pistol. Darnold stares at it in horror. "It IS my son's birthday, and I would very much prefer to keep any work encounters brief." GMan continues sternly. He holds out his hand. "If it truly pains you so to send it back to the facility due to your...sentiments, then I shall have to neutralise it for you." Tommy rushes in front of Darnold, putting space between him and GMan: "What?! Nuh, no, you can't! He- Darnold just got her back!"

"A-actually, I-" Darnold begins to say, before he is spoken over by GMan again. "Tommy, I understand you have an affinity for your animals, and it is truly commendable, but may I suggest saving such compassions for a creatures of a more...earthly nature?" "There are...reasons for why we merely observe them as opposed to releasing them to the general public. Afterall, it would only be irresponsible to introduce such a threat to the delicate ecosystem of our planet..." "...not to mention all the troublesome conspiracies to follow. All the means and ways humans are willing to take to uncover the answers they so desperately crave."

GMan looks down coldly upon Darnold: "...you wouldn't like to be caught in the middle of that, would you Doctor Darnold?" Darnold hugs Sasha tighter in response, and the Gubb begins to squirm uncomfortably. Her tail kicks the last bauble of sleep potion Darnold has on his belt, and that gives him an idea.

Meanwhile, Tommy is speaking to GMan. "That's...that's why Benrey didn't- hasn't shown up yet...isn't it? Benrey-" Tommy looks down, "I don't know WHY he did that, but I...people don't just- there HAS to be a reason a-and I don't think-" "I'll do it," Darnold says. Tommy stops. "Whuh?" he says. "Wise choice, Doctor Darnold," GMan says, handing Darnold his pistol. "Rest assured, this will be your only responsibility. I'd say burdening you with hazardous remains would hardly be fitting for-" Darnold puts up his hand: "Uh, no, I won't be needing that. Thank you."

Darnold reveals half of his gun from inside his labcoat, looking away: "I- I believe I'm well-equiped enough as is." "Might I just request that I may be, uh, allowed to bury her?" GMan frowns: "Doctor Darnold, need I remind you that the remnants of an alien specimen could be of biohazardous nature to-" "I can-!" Tommy cuts in. He taps a thoughtful finger to his chin. "I could- I could bioengineer a, a soil that can neutralise the- any potentially harmful components in foreign organic materials that interact- that come into contact with it." "I'll just have to pick up some, uh, stuff from the store and we'll be as good as a, a honeybee in a springtime orchard." Darnold puts away his gun and nods, smiling hopefully. /End ID.]

Absentmindedly, Gordon mumbles it back under his breath.

"Gay gay, homosexual..."

He drops the bags of chips he'd brought over off on the coffee table while making his way to the sofa. He sinks into an armchair.

"Sorry for going MIA, you guys."

"It's okay, Mr Freeman. Moving places can be really tough, it- and you only moved in yesterday, it's a lot of stuff to set up."

"That too, that too. I mean, it wasn't yesterday, I've been living at-"

"It's wonderful to finally have you here with us, Gordon!"

"Yeah. Thanks again for inviting me, Tommy."

"Gordon, I'm not Tommy."

"Oh right, sorry. Thanks, Bubby."
