Ted nodded and began to swing the rope. It didn’t move very much, but after a little bit, it was enough so Buggs could reach the ledge. The catch? He’d have to let go of Ted to grab it.
The boy in red seemed fully aware of that though and didn’t stop. “Jump and grab it. I’ll follow, but we can’t do it at the same time. Just grab it and climb up, okay? You’ll be- Well- Safer then-”
So here’s the thing. This scene was confusing and feels pretty weird to me.
I haven’t seen a lot of people talking about this, but this moment made me confused and bothered. Penny agreed to this, but in this moment, it was literally a grown man taking complete control over her body, more or less ‘hacking into her’ and forcing her movements. This isn’t meant as any hate towards Pietro, but it’s just a bad move to me to have Penny’s entire character journey built on being a real person with her own thoughts and feelings, who should be able to make her own choices and have complete control over her own autonomy (which I completely agree with,) and yet have it be part of their story that her father just sometimes takes over her body. It’s easy enough to explain why this control mode exists, since they made it canon in these past two seasons that she was built as a weapon and not as a daughter (if I recall correctly,) but she is Pietro’s daughter, she is a sentient person, who the story has given an arc about breaking free of being controlled, and then... They have Pietro ‘radio into’ her and take her over. Ruby is shocked, but then accepts it. In my opinion, this should be viewed as disturbing, and at the very least, a massive gray area and a necessary evil that all of them are disgusted that they have to do.
I mean, I’m pretty sure we can all recognize this as wrong:
And I know that Penny consented to losing control of her body with Pietro and that makes it... Less egregious, but I’m hesitant to even say that, because Penny’s shown to be extremely naïve and almost childlike. I don’t know if she can consent. One could argue that in a life or death situation where Pietro has to control Penny, it makes sense, but Ironwood also has a life or death situation on his hands (if he didn’t move Atlas, thousands of people could be killed by Salem.) If Penny isn’t mature enough to consent to her body being controlled (I would argue that she isn’t,) then is the primary difference that Pietro wanted to take control of Penny but actually cared about her feelings, and James wanted to take control of Penny but didn’t actually care about her feelings? Whatever the difference is, both of these instances make me feel very uncomfortable. Even ignoring the implications of ‘grown men take control of a barely legal and arguably not able to consent girl’s body,’ this is still a choice with bad messages. CRWBY wrote Penny to have an arc centered around the question of whether or not she was real (the answer is yes,) and the fact that because she’s real, she shouldn’t be controlled (which is true and good.) And then they had two different men take control of her body, and one of those instances is dismissed.
On top of this, her being able to generate her own aura (said in season two) was changed to her being able to live off of Pietro’s aura. And the thing that most affirms that she’s a real person (getting the Maiden Powers) was only achieved because she’s a robot. I’m not trying to disparage Penny or the message surrounding her. I’m one hundred percent on board with ‘Penny is a real girl who shouldn’t be controlled and should be free to make her own choices.’ It’s just that I think CRWBY is sending mixed signals (maybe unintentionally.) Pietro being able to hack into and control Penny is just very strange to me, especially in the same season where Ironwood doing the same thing is a sign of his being a villain. Btw, I’m not trying to excuse Ironwood.

•While Ryoma doesn’t know much about being trans, he supports you no matter what!
•He’s yours and yours only, and will be there to lift you back up in case you fall down.
•And yet when he first experiences your dysphoria he isn’t ready.
•It’s the end of the day, and he finds you in your room staring at yourself in the mirror with tear filled eyes and shaking hands.
•He rushes to your side and scoops your tiny frame into his arms, pressing his forehead against yours and kissing your eyelids to try to calm your down.
•He’s gentle, wiping the tears away and whispering in your ear, asking what was wrong and what he could do to help.
•Silently he’s panicking, but he knows that you seeing him freak out wouldn’t help anyone.
•You can barely tell him without bursting into another crying fit, but he gets the general idea, and is quick to devise a plan inside his head.
•He gets your bed ready and lets you lay down, rushing off to make tea.
•Soon he’s sitting across from you, holding your hand quietly while you sip on the beverage. He hopes that it helps, but the sadness on your face persists.
•“My love, would you like to talk about it?”
•He doesn’t push, and if you don’t feel like sharing, he’ll simply crawl into bed with you while stroking your hair and whispering sweet compliments and words of praise as you both fall asleep.
•If you do decide to share, he’s right there with you. He’s your shoulder to cry on, the man who will save you from drowning in your own thoughts. He’ll let you vent for as long as you need to, all the while listening to your troubles.
