I apologize for this - someone really pissed me off earlier, and today was not the day to do so after a self-reflection. After writing this, I have to go listen to some music and cry.
I'll stop being an advocate for pro-choice, when society stops breeding mutts in their backyard, calling them ridiculous breed names and selling them for a profit.
When shelters aren't so over-run by unwanted puppies and kittens that in one country alone 4 million of them die each year (and that's only in ONE country, in EVERY country) because people are buying the backyard bred "factory" puppies.
When same-sex couples can adopt one of the millions of abandoned and/or orphaned children so they're not growing up in foster homes that forget about them after 18, or sitting in group homes or being sold in exploitation rings, I'll stop being an advocate for pro-choice.
When free-will and freedom of choice over ALL aspects of everyone's lives, I'll stop being an advocate for pro-choice. When animals aren't killed, maimed or dumped on the side of the road every week and it's no longer more "convenient" to put an animal that is a part of your family down just because you're moving or no one adopts it within 2-4 weeks, then I'll start taking you pro-lifers seriously.
How do you think dogs feel who are forced to have puppies so you could sell their children for a cash profit (I'm not speaking of reputable breeders here....they don't make profit) How do you think a horse feels when you have it shot because it can't run as fast to get you a stupid trophy? How do you think that cat in your house feels when you move houses and don't take him/her with you?
And why are all the pro-life arguments only limited to humans? Animals are given abortions too when owners were too ignorant or lazy to get their pets spayed or neutered, and unlike human abortions - they put the mother animal at risk about 150% higher. But that's okay, because it's just an animal and the world needs more children that the parents don't want and will just forget he/she ever existed.
Sure, we can talk about adoption with humans. Guess how long the waiting list is for a parent that DOES want a child and can't have one naturally? About 10 years in my country - with NO guarantee of even getting a child after paying all the fees, hoping, waiting, and going through years of paperwork. Guess what else...how many children do you think are in NEED of adoption? Millions. How many parents apply for adoption in my country each year? Thousands. How many children were adopted last year? Less than 500!
Sure, you can force mothers under all circumstances to have and carry a child they don't want and then give it to an adoption service that will possibly NEVER give it a true family home. Sure, you can make a victim of rape endure 9 months of hormonal, flashback HELL so YOUR conscience is clear.
But you'd better fix the adoption system first. You better stop being elitist and that human life is SUPERIOR to any and all other life. Like the millions of dogs and cats waiting in CAGES today - and half of them will be "put to sleep" this week. Which is a nice way of saying killing them for no damn reason than to "save space".
You'd better grant same-sex marriage adoption so that couples who want children can have them and save the life of a child. You'd better explain to that mother-to-be that the child she's birthing has a very small chance of getting a home before he/she starts kindergarten. You'd better explain to the mother-to-be via rape that while the rapist is the one to blame...she must carry his child to term while dealing with emotional trauma that she will never forget, suicidal thoughts (even without being pregnant) and put up with feeling constantly punished for 9 months.
Oh, and let's look at Menkes Disease. It can be detected in the womb. And that child is already DYING. From the day the child is born if detected in the womb (which is only a fairly new advancement) the mother knows her son IS going to die within the first few months or first few years of life. He will never walk, talk, speak, eat without a tube, breathe without assistance and he will be in incredible pain as his body dies slowly. He will never sit up, clench a fist, lift his head.
Getting a cold could kill him, EATING could kill him and there is nothing that the mother can do - and she's known since 3 months pregnant that she needed to arrange a funeral for her barely growing child inside of her. That she must look him in the eyes as soon as she gives birth to him and know he's never going to say "mommy". She also knows that if she's a carrier and has more children, her sons could die before their 10th birthday or pass it along to her grandchildren - which her sons will have to watch their sons die in a vicious cycle. If she has girls...they will have the fear of watching their sons die and she will have to lose grandsons.
Abolishing abortion is cruel, and fucking stupid. My nephew's mother is a Menkes Disease carrier. My nephew is dead. His two uncles (his mother's brothers) are dead. My nieces and living nephew will grow up, and have children of their own - and could lose their sons, grandsons, etc. I will have to see more of my family children buried.
I looked into my nephews eyes as a newborn and had to say GOODBYE while he was still breathing. You can't imagine that hell. And knowing that they will be born in pain for their short life? Would be torture to both the baby's loved ones and the baby himself...even girls can get it, thankfully, rarely.
Don't preach to me about abortion being "murder". Don't preach to me about life being sacred when you allow backyard breeders to force animals into breeding for profit and millions of them are killed by humans every year because of "space". Don't preach to me if you're stripping the sanity and compassion away from a rape victim. Don't preach to me if you're not trying to fix the adoption system so that the born, healthy human babies and children don't have a home and sometimes DIE waiting for one. Don't preach to me while there's still children being snatched from their fucking beds and sold into child exploitation. Don't preach to me until you can guarantee that every child born is healthy and will learn to walk, talk and a mother never has to arrange a funeral for the child still inside her.
Seeing Pro-Life signs plastered all over campus pisses me off. Like abortion is one of three things that I will fight you to the death about. Just. Gah.
