“Where do you think you’re going?!!”
His voice was rough, as if it wasn’t her own father speaking to her. He wasn’t drink, nor intoxicated in any matter, but his behavior towards her.. was something Elly had not witnessed ever before.
[[ tw;; mentioning of;; abuse..?, family issues, swearing, breakdowns ]]
It was all because the latest episode of the MGA’s. The blonde knew very well who was responsible for the sudden outburst of her father. The person who raised her and rook care of her for so many years. The same person who had never raised his voice to her, slammed a glass, scolded her, threatened to hit her, was not chasing her around the apartment because her own mother had different views on her the rapper was supposed to get a hold of her life.
“I said I’m leaving. I am not staying here with you.” Hyo-jin was calmer, more collected than her dad at this stage of the heated argument. She didn’t have business with him, but that woman who he divorced ages ago. She was the fucking cause of all this.
“I told you, you are not going anywhere until you promise me to leave the show!!” her father yelled after her, grabbing her by the arm and pulling her to a stop. The grip was definitely going to leave bruises, but she didn’t say anything, make up would cover them up. “I didn’t tell you anything about that previous stupid pregame you went on, because you didn’t succeed, because you weren’t recognized as a rapper, why do you think that people would like you if you enter the stupidest event on earth?” he screamed at her, his free hand gripping her jaw in order to make Hyo-jin look at him. She was good with the verbal abuse she got from him, the multiple underground battles were something she was used to, gone far more worst than most people could ever imagine. However, physical pain, was something she had lack of tolerance to.
The sudden, rough shake caught her of guard, causing her eyes to widen as she tore away from his grip, her brain filled with anger that was yet to be spoken, but instead of slowly escalating it, she went to the point of the whole argument.
“You’re like this because of that witch aren’t you?? Ever since she came, ever since she called you, you have been all over her as if you are a lost puppy!! HAVEN’T YOU MOVED ON ALREADY??!”
The words were followed by silence, a tensed and suffocating one that only caused her to suppress the tears because more was yet to come. Elly was ready, expecting for a counter attack, for a slap even. Her father stayed silent, and she continued, given the opportunity.
“How long has it been? Its been seventeen fucking years dad!! SEVENTEEN!! It was just the two of us, for so much longer and you and that person you divorced spend together.. Why... WHY CAN’T YOU SEE WHAT SHE’S DOING TO US??! It was me and you, the two of us against this bloody world, but what did you do? Force me to grow up- To get a good degree, to be the best that I can be in what I am good at, why can’t you support me now of all the times I’ve ever come to see you...” her voice died out, throat burning and her vision blurred by the tears that she would never let to fall, not in front of him.
Hyo-jin did not expect the slap to come so suddenly, but it definitely sent her off balance, almost causing her to knock down a lamp along the way. She didn’t fall.
“Out.”
“Dad-”
“I said out of my house you ungrateful girl!” he yelled, pointing at the door that was not so far away.
Elly didn’t know what stung more, the hand printed on her left cheek, or the fact that the person she looked up to and grew up with, adored and loved with all her hart chose someone else. Someone who had never really cared about Elly, someone who he left behind almost two decades ago.
Somehow that, someone, her own mother, which had gotten back into their life for less than three months... was chosen over her, by a person she treasured the most.
Without any sharp movement, she bowed her head down at her father and quietly headed towards the door, hesitating for a few seconds but she reached for the door handle.
“Do whatever you want with your life.”
Hyo-jin heard as she closed the door behind her.
A few hours had passed since the accident, but she couldn’t bring herself to get out of the car and up the stairs to her shared apartment.
She couldn’t bear hear Hyuna cry almost every night and not say anything about it, she couldn’t even look at herself, she couldn’t think straight, she couldn’t cope with the empty feeling in her chest.
Elly couldn’t go up and ask the roommate for comfort, because Hyuna had not looked for a shoulder to lean on and Elly herself had already done that once before, bursting into tears the second the younger wrapped her arms around her frame.
There were so many thing she couldn’t do at the moment, and one of them was the fact that no tears would fall, no emotions would be spilled, nothing was happening, but it made her smile. A meaningless, worthless and broken smile that no one would ever see from her.
She held her phone in her hand, watching the dark screen before pressing the button on the side, it soon flashing of a picture with her dad, taken a few years back on her birthday.
She didn’t bat an eyelash at it.
It was already late, 3:14 am, no one would be awake.
No matter how big of a workaholic Bobby was, he was too stressed to probably deal with her. Minsoo was busy with his own things, busies than ever before. Heeo had her own scandal to deal with, so it was pointless adding onto the pressure. Jaewon had disappeared without a single word. Hyuna was upstairs on her own yet again. Sehun was too young to even try and understand. Jihyun would notice something wasn’t right, but Elly also didn’t have the heart to call her so late at night.
She was left alone in the vehicle, engine turned on, debating what to do, what to say, how to act. Eventually, her eyes lifted to look in the back mirror. She smiled, more at the mark on her cheek than anything else.
Hyo-jin had to accept it, accept the fact that she would probably never be good enough for her family.
“Ahh... where are grandpa and grandma when you need them..” she asked herself, the back of her hand coming to rest on her forehead as she leaned back.
Half an hour later, Elly had gathered herself together, and entered the shared apartment with Hyuna. It was early, but the the trainee’s alarm hadn’t gone off yet, so the blonde took the opportunity to cook breakfast for the other.
It wasn’t the usual, over board breakfast she did every weekend when the two had time, it was more casual. A few pancakes, jam, butter and honey put in small cups on the side. There was a carton of milk and one of orange set on the table, with a large glass and some fruit salad put in a bowl.
She stood there, staring at the dishes she had made, hoping she wasn’t too loud. Finally, she wrote a small note, with the neatest hand writing she could possibly pull off /after the nearly 24 hours she hadn’t slept and the events coming with them/ and placed it on side.
Have a nice day. Don’t skip any meals, smile a lot and hey. You’re the best. - Love, Hyo-jin
With that, the blonde headed to bed with an alarm set for seven, when she would head back to Royal’s building, in order to get ready for the next round.
She needed to talk eventually.
