Trailer - We Best Love 永遠的第一名 (Eng Sub/Español)
Earlier this week I finished reading The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo, which I decided to read after watching the 6-episode Netflix drama adaptation of the same name.
Having read the book now I understand the disappointment of those who had read it first (and were quite understandably excited for the series) because yeah, if I’d gone into the drama expecting the events and characters from the book, I would’ve felt a bit let-down too. There were a lot of changes made. They took the main characters and the basic skeleton of the plot and then seemingly rewrote the story (dropping some subplots entirely), probably to slim it down to the brief 6-episode length and perhaps due to budget limitations they would’ve run into with special effects.
That’s not to say I now retroactively dislike the drama but I'm definitely glad that I watched the Netflix series first because I had really no expectations beyond a basic ghost/mystery story, and as such I thought it was quite enjoyable. But if (like me) you came to the title via the drama, I definitely recommend reading the book as it’s basically an entirely new experience. Conversely if you're approaching the drama having already read the book, I’d encourage you to try to think of the live action as a separate story, albeit with somewhat familiar characters/plot.
I realize the chances of this are zero, but I’d love it if they (Netflix or someone else) would make a more true-to-book adaptation, giving it the 12 (at least!) episodes and special effects budget (c’mon I watch tokusatsu, I’m not picky) it deserves to tell that story.

So I’ve been into Taiwanese drama lately and it’s very frustrating how there is nothing about most of them on tumblr. There is not a whole lot about them on Soompi either. It feels strangely lonely.
Also, I’m really surprised how easy Mandarin is to learn. I will never be able to read Chinese and I’m completely tone deaf to Mandarin’s tones but there is not 7 levels of politeness and the word order is the same as English. The syntax and grammar are surprisingly easy and I still can’t believe how many words I understand after just three months.

I think I should start by introducing myself, so...
Hi! I’m °Byeol° and I’m a drama addicted.
I’ve been watching Asian dramas since 2008 and I’ve got no intention to stop.
After a very looooooong time, I finally decided to do what I’ve always wanted to do: talk about dramas and share my opinions with people. My “real life” friends are wonderful people, but they don’t share this big passion of mine, so I’ve always felt the need to communicate with someone else. And now I’ve finally found the courage to start this blog.
What am I going to do? Basically reviews of the dramas that I currently watch, as well as those of the ones I’ve already watched (which also gives me an excuse to do rewatches).
I’m no expert, but I truly LOVE dramas, and I hope people will find my posts amusing and entertaining. I’ve no intention to be rude but I’m an honest person and if I don’t like something I’m gonna say it, just like I’m gonna freak out every time there’s a phenomenal plot twist.
Here’s a little disclaimer:
- English isn’t my native tongue so I may make some mistakes. If you could make me notice said mistakes I would be very happy, so I’d improve my English (but please be kind). I decided to write in English so my thoughts could reach more people
- Even though I’m not that old, I’ve never really used Tumblr before (I know, shame on me) so, especially at the beginning I might sound/look a little awkward, so please be patient, thank you.
- As I said earlier, I earnestly love and appreciate dramas, so I try to give as honest reviews as I can, please don’t feel attacked if I don’t appreciate your favourite dramas or actor’s performance.
