Peter Hale is a born werewolf and one of the survivors of the Hale Family fire. However, he was left comatose and badly scarred in a long term care facility in Beacon Hills. His werewolf nature allowed him to heal, slowly, over the intervening years. He tricked his niece into returning to so that he could kill her and become an Alpha. He used his new power to kill the people responsible for his family's death. His efforts forced the hand of his nephew, and resulting in his being dead. Just before his death, he infected a local girl and used her to bring himself back to life. In short, Peter Hale can be considered very intelligent and calculating, some what narcissistic, and more then a little sociopathic.
