Daryl ❤️ Beth
TWD 4x13- “Alone”
Hey, remember how Daryl suggested they stay in the funeral home together and how he phrased it as, "But maybe we'll be alright,"? And remember how the night before Beth had sung a song with the lyrics, "And we'll be good,"?
I'm just going to leave that there.
bob is so sweet and i actually really like him
"You can talk with someone for years, everyday, and still, it won’t mean as much as what you can have when you sit in front of someone, not saying a word, yet you feel that person with your heart, you feel like you have known the person for forever…. connections are made with the heart, not the tongue.” — C. Joybell C.
This sums up Beth and Daryl's relationship so well in Still and Alone, especially in the kitchen scene. It just shows how deep their connection is and how much they understand each other. <3
Why do you think they featured Bob in the opening of Alone? I understand that the whole theme is people being alone in different ways, but it just never made sense to me. Thanks! <3
Well, lovely, for one thing, it didn’t just feature Bob. It also featured Glenn and Daryl (which I love, because I just look at them together now and think, “they’re practically brothers; they’re both going to be with Greene girls!”). Yes, “Alone” was primarily about how you need other people, but that opening scene helped to perfectly frame the episode as a whole.
Daryl: Do you wanna come with us?Bob: Yes.Daryl: You got any questions for us?Bob: No. It doesn’t matter who you are. Glenn: Really?Bob: Yeah. Doesn’t matter.Glenn and Daryl could have been taking him back to a Woodbury-esque or Terminus-like colony for all Bob knew. Still, it truly didn’t matter to him, one way or the other. He doesn’t want to be alone. He doesn’t like when things get quiet or being the last man standing. It helps us tap into why Bob is the way he is throughout “Alone.” He’s all about keeping him, Maggie and Sasha together. He really identifies with Maggie’s desire to find others, to prove that they’re not all that’s left — so he takes her side over Sasha’s. I don’t think he abandoned Sasha… I think he hoped she would wise-up and follow him.
His opening trudge through a quiet, empty forest, encountering only walkers wherever he goes, numb to the world around him, only serves to press the point that people need other people. They need community and socializing and security, otherwise, what’s the point? We see this exact scenario mirrored at the very end of the episode with Daryl and Joe. Daryl is all alone. Beth’s trail has gone cold. He’s heartbroken and lost and, at that moment, all of his options are limited to simply sitting there in the dirt, trying to figure out how everything went so wrong; soaking in the unbearable quiet. So, when Joe happens along, even though Daryl knows instinctively that he and his men are not good people, it doesn’t really matter who they are. Not at that moment. They’re people, ones who are willing to let him tag along with them. With them, at least he’s not alone; they fill the silence. In that moment, Daryl can understand where Bob was coming from when they found him on the road. There’s safety in numbers, and that’s all there is to it. Granted, even with other people, Daryl still walks around “like a dead man,” in a similar manner Bob did in the opening sequence of “Alone,” but that’s less about being the last man standing and more about being sad he lost Beth. No cure for a broken heart, after all, except time — and time doesn’t work that quickly. I think the opening sequence isn’t just an insight into Bob this episode, it sort of foreshadows poor Daryl’s plight at the end.
One of my favorite scenes in "Alone" is the beginning. When he tells her to keep tracking after she tells him she wouldn't need him anymore. Haha. Loved it ❤️ is was short but I loved his reaction. What are your thoughts about it?
"Alone" was a huge episode for them, even if they had to share their screen time with "Sashmabob." I’m posting my long-teased meta on "Alone" tomorrow! I’ve been working on it for a little while now, and I do touch on all of the Bethyl scenes, including the one you mentioned. But I will say that it was an adorable scene that truly shows how comfortable and close Daryl and Beth have become. Look for the actual post on the full episode tomorrow! I can’t wait to share it with you all. ♥
